IMO, before I would carry a spare mag, I would carry a can of Fox 5.3. Of course both is better.

I carry a Palm Defender (kubaton sized pepper spray) on my key ring, a knife, and a light as well as a gun and 1 (j-frame) or 2 (1911) reloads.

Knife, kubaton/pepper spray combo and a flashlight.

Oh ya, keys.

Did anyone stop to think that if ANYONE of us fell into the water for any odd reason - our chances of actually surviving would be slim as we are all weighed down with so much crap...

Only if you have a Glock. Remember, Glocks can fire underwater but no other gun can.

Almost all guns can fire under water as long as the whole gun is submerged.

as long as the whole gun is submerged

More explanation please. What happens if only part of the gun is submerged? I'm assuming the muzzle only.

The soreness from this morning's 3300 meter before work swim workout let's me think that I would have better than even odds.

BLAMMO

Water cannot be compressed - Air can be

BLAMMO is the general result of something like that. I saw some doofis submerge the bbl of an 06 one time in some water - pull the trigger and BLAMMO.

Blew up the whole gun - not a good idea.

Think of the difference between a belly flop and already being underwater. Add a LOT of pressure.
