contrary to popular belief, I don't believe Strad lives in his parents' basement nor do I think the "I'll store them in my safe" is working so far.

0014, I think I'd just take some cleaning/storage supplies needed with you next time you visit, along with silocone gun socks. Just volunteer to help dp some house cleaning, and go do a little gun storage proceedure on them and leave them there, stored in their attic.

Mitch, bring the bananas. That or you could store them at my house, seeing as I have no children to play with them yet.

It's WI. Though OC is legal there, a bunch of out of staters OCing in what may as well be a gated community wouldn't go over all that well.

Good suggestion on the cosmoline though... although that will be an action of last resort.

The best way with parents and you know this Strad is to wear them down, you know the "can we have a pool Dad?" mentality. Bug the heck out of the woman, keep asking, be childish and persistant. It works and hopefully these reminders of your Grandfather will be in a better place and better condition.
I know my method is very immature, but it works.

Mom's are usually cheap, tell her that you intend to buy duplicate functionality.

They are their property. Worry about them when and if they become your property. Problem solved.
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

That might work well... Tell her, that in order to preserve grampa's memory you're going to have similar firearms created new. Might inspire her anti-ness to let you have them to stop more firearms from being created.

Clocker you are wise man but it might be really dangerous to leave weapons with people who neither care nor properly store.

I think fear should be main line of reasoning (given that Grandpa memories didn't work).

Strada: try to take your mom's side, it's always best way to get what you want. Don't remind her anymore that you own guns. Get her yet more scared, pretend to be worried (and by the way you should be!): 1) if criminals learn about the weapons then you parents are in danger 2) tell her the guns can explode if not taken care of (anti people can believe anything), or similar, just don't tell her that you are concerned about guns getting rusty, this is the last thing she cares about. Anti people believe that guns discharge by themselve all the time, even if not loaded, so you won't have a problem with that. She already knows they are DANGEROUS. Don't push. Let the idea soak for a while, until they cry for HELP ... And then you FIND the solution to the PROBLEM, namely you find the would be "buyer", "someone else" (not YOU because your mother DOESN'T WANT you to own guns, not even friend of yours, because you CANNOT have friends like THAT, he needs to be total stranger - one of those ugly gun owners, evil people..). Happy End. Now ALL of you can breathe in relief (Finally you got rid of those terrible things).... I'm sure you can imagine the little details... PS: Hopefully she won't suddenly recalls Grandpa and refuses to dispose his stuff... PPS: Don't hang the stuff on your walls (what if mom suddenly visits you!) And if she caught you - tell her that the buyer refused the deal saying the guns are totally harmless and worthless, and you forgot to tell her cause it's not a big deal.

I think arguing with family from a position of dishonesty is a bad recipe. Also, his arguments here will carry over into the conversations about his gun ownership and could haunt him some day when she gets all grandma bear upset over her future grand kids or step grandkids or whatever ...
