Backyard range ideas

Postby Jackpine Savage on Thu Mar 18, 2010 7:39 am

The frost is about out, time to start working on the pistol range.

I picked up some targets from Sigfan220, now I need to make up a hanger(s). I've got the steel for some target stands. Got plans in mind for a barricade.

I ran across this site, it had some interesting ideas for homemade targets and other stuff. It would be fun to have a mover for the Tueller drill or maybe a charging dog.

Anyone one else have some range ideas? Pictures of yours? Other websites?

I just finished a charging target I will be using at the IDPA Back-Up Gun matches this summer at the Faribault Rifle & Pistol Club starting in May. 21 feet charging in about 2 seconds. This was my winter project. You can buy a charging target from MGM Targets that does something similar for about $3,000.

Hey Westhope, do you mind sharing the plans for that? :D

Strad, I'll be down there to look at it in May. I'll take some photos when Westhope's not looking, and sell them to you for way less than $3000.

Westhope, I remember you had a stage that consisted of simply drawing from concealment and firing one round, and I think my time was about 2.0 seconds. Yikes.

I should not have looked at that site, to many good ideas. I don't need another project, but looks like I may have a few more for the summer.

Glad to hear the targets made it. I was just thinking they should be on your doorstep.

And Strad cannot come to the match and look for himself, why?

It was designed on "SolidWorks" CAD software. Do you have a license for that?

Here is MGM Targets charging prop:

Mine is along the same idea but I think much simpler and cheaper.
