I think you are all giving them a bad rap. In my dealing with them they were fair and honest.

Kind of a disturbing trend emerging with Gander. Been a few years since I went to MG Gander, but my impression with the prissy looking/acting gun guys was pretty much the same ... except for one guy, a bigger guy with a scruffy beard (Jim D.). He was great to deal with and I wound up buying two used guns from him since he cut me such a great deal on them.

FOLLOW UP:

Called the store and corporate today. Talked to the retail team at corporate and they were going to talk to the store manager and ensured me that I would get a phone call today from either them or the store.

After about an hour I received a call from the store manager and told him the entire story. About how John thinks I will need duct tape for the clip, I won't get the GM warranty and that I better not bring the gun back if I have issues.

He kept telling me how sorry he was for the poor customer service I received and that he was going to send me all the stuff that I was suppose to get with my purchase along with a GM gift certificate. He also said that some of the GM stores are not doing the gun club as a test if they do a price match.

Either way, not happy with the overall experience, but I will take the gift cert from them to buy some stuff on clearance!

As a new arrival, I've only visited the GM in Eden Prairie. Had decent prices on a few used long guns. New and used handguns were stupid (above new retail). Ammo out of this world. A nice visit and browse, but no money left my wallet. The Gander Mountain in York, PA was always hit or miss, but I bought about a half dozen used guns at screaming deal prices over the past few years.

The Cabelas in Rogers also seems to have pretty stiff prices on used guns, and a very small stock of used handguns. The Hamburg PA store had an amazing selection and pretty good deals on used guns (especially with the "spend $500 and get $100-150" coupons).

Just went to the GM in EP today to get some cleaning patches.

Boy, they are stripping the stock off the shelves. I asked the lady about it and she said corporate is really limiting their stock inventory. Rows of empty hangers. ONE 1911 single stack magazine.

It's too bad their corporate doesn't get their head out of the sand. The EP store has friendly staff up in the gun section, they just don't have stock and have to deal with crazy prices.

I periodically get GM gift certificates from my mother-in-law (how great is that). A few years ago, I was able to combine three GM gift cards into about $200, so I went and bought myself a 10/22. The service was good, and I got a lot of freebies with the gun, including free gunsmithing (made him clean my AR15) and another $25 gift card. I was pretty happy with it.

On the other hand, when you are talking about GM, Dicks, Cabela's, or just about any other retail sporting goods store, about 99% of the time the guy behind the counter is not a shooter, and six months ago was working at a Target or Wal-Mart. I don't have much for expectations.

I buy most of my guns thru Gunbroker, accessories thru internet retailers (CDNN, J&G, LAPG are my favorites), and ammo at Wal-Mart. The specialty stores are, in my opinion, not so special. I only visit them when there is something I need RFN and I am willing to pay more for it.

This is what makes it so hard for me to figure out WTF to do with my GM gift card. It's $50, which is at least what they charge over everyone else. Use it on ammo or clothes I suppose. :)

I wouldn't waste it on ammo there.

They have decent clothes prices, and pretty good cleaning supplies prices. Stock up on all that little crap.
