Lunch works better for me than breakfast.

There is the Key's/Monties bar on University in Blaine, would have to check to see if it's posted. When I worked there Monties was a biker bar.

There's JT's Cafe in just north of old highway 10 on central.
the Ideal Diner in new brighton, I think it's off of Johnson but I'm not sure. Might be Central.

I heard the Ideal Diner had great food at good prices but my SIL says it's always packed when she goes.

But, I talked to the manager at the Pannekoeken Huis on Cty Rd D, about a block or so west of White Bear Ave. He is very open to group reservations and has a real nice area for such a gathering as ours. He currently has a regular group that comes every week at about 7 or so. If we came at 9:00 that would be ok. I got the imression that 9:30 may be better. I mentioned that we are a group of " gun toting, flag waving, conservatives" to quote one of our (in)famous members. OK, maybe we're not all conservatives but he got the picture and had no problem with that. The first immediate problem would be that 12/8 is already reserved. So, whadya think? If it sounds like there is interest, we can persue it further.

Thanks all for continuing to look and discuss this!
Nyffman--when you say that "12/8 is already reserved", what does that mean--that the restaurant can't accommodate us on that date?

That would be correct. Unless you want to make it more of a lunch. The other group is a one time thing, so if you all want to go with this place, we could make a standing reservation after that.

Another possible location is Barnacle Bill's in Brooklyn Center at I-694 and Shingle Creek Parkway. They don't have a separate room, but there's a long bench seat along the rear wall, similar to what's at Pastrami Jack's. They could easily accomodate 20 of us. Their food is decent and reasonably priced. We go there for breakfast periodically, and it's typically not real busy. There's been lots of changes going on in the area, so I think their traffic is down some.

My vote is Keys if the location won't be too much of a problem for everybody else. It's a local family chain with great food and generous portions. Their most famous review included the phrase "caramel rolls the size of a bowling ball" !!!

Which Key's? I know of at least two in the north metro. There's one on Lexington just south of 36, and one in Blain on University a couple miles south of Northtown.

ˇThere was a post about pannoekoen huis out at maplewood mall, as they have a nice back room and were not at all replussed by the mention of firearms.

IS there anywhere having a breakfast buffet? the former Jakes in mounds view did, but I have not been in since they were bought out.

also OCB in Maplewood, White Bear Ave, couple blocks south of 694. The Pannekoeken I mentioned earlier is also off White Bear Ave, right off 694.

OK, it is only 4:45 AM so maybe I am not fully awake yet but what is OCB? Sounds like some kind of disease where you keep drawing your gun from the holster over and over.

If anyone has some relationship with any of the restaurants mentioned, please feel free to drop in and talk to management about the proposal and see how they feel about us, and give us a report. In the week after Thanksgiving I will try to gather up the ones which were mentioned and haven't been visited and try them out, see if I can talk to management, etc. and come up with a couple which seem to have some advantages, and we'll vote on the best.
This is not to say that Perkins is necessarily out either. If we want to put up with the minor annoyances for Perkins, that is certainly an option. Probably no place will be perfect...unless we find one with an indoor range free to those who have breakfast!
