Compare MN resident permit counts to number of people who have given notice. It's a much higher rate of informed, politically active people than many other causes.

Maybe, but even if they alienated the entire permit population, which wouldn't happen, they are only affecting a little over 1% of the population. I realize that you could argue family and friend votes and what not, but still an insignificant total number of voters compared to other groups.

It's not insignificant. It's more than triple the margin by which Pawlenty won his last election.

It's 1% of the total population, but something like 8-10% of the population that's eligible to vote.

It's almost 1.98% of the voting eligible population and 2.55% of the actual voting population. Not every permit holder votes, but the percentages are much higher than most demographics.

Ask a politician if he's willing to risk offending a potential 2.55% voting bloc.

By comparison, the teachers' union has 70000 members--4300 less than the number of permit holders.

Wow, we got us some power now! Hear us roar! Assuming each group is homogonous and votes as a block. But, interesting numbers. I hadn't really thought about it in comparison with the esteemed teachers union. That makes us mainstream. :D

Probably have to file a FOIA req to get it if they wouldn't.

I've got a call in to the State Patrol Public Information Officer to get this number.

There are 354 names on the list. That's not a significant voting bloc.

That doesn't factor in teachers that aren't in the union. Think substitutes, private schools and so on. I would be willing to be bet a larger number of teachers vote on any given election than permit holders. And what about the number of teachers that have permits?

I would like to know who the smart one was who carried to the rally, and then cause a a fuss about leaving his gun in a porta potty. St paul police responded and were not happy. It turned out at the end of the day he left it on his desk at home. And most of the names on the list at the capitol, according to my friend who works dispatch, are actually the senate and house staff and legislatures and senators, and they out number the average joes.
