Sure they missed a few targets, but if you had a television crew staring you down with the big lenses of the cameras, and you knew you were going to be on national television, you might just choke too.

TV does funny things to people. You think the shot timer makes people lose 50 IQ points? Get them in front of a TV camera.

Must have affected the guy that got booted a lot more than it affected everyone else in that episode. Maybe he had 2 camera's on him, to everyone else's one camera.

Whatever. I just think it's funny that he gets criticized by you commandos from the comfort of the bleachers. :P Like I said, it affects people differently. And who knows, if he would have gotten the other rifle, the other team might have lost.

But you're right, if it were you, or slushgun, I'm sure you would have done much, much better under the pressure.

Right. Did I say I could do better? Did I say I deserved to be on such a show? Anywhere? Don't think I did. One band wagon or another, everyone has to pick a side I guess. Just telling it like I saw it. At the beginning of the show this guy says "I'll do well, because I am good with everything." Speaking of keyboard commandos, are we to consider the almighty Strad as anything close to credible here? I must have missed your lengthy career of competition shooting on television. Or are you drawing experience here, from playing the Tuba on TV? That must closely relate  I think for somebody to be so confident at the beginning of a show, and act like they have the well rounded skill set to be there, they ought to perform a hair better. Am I wrong? This is Top Shot after all. Not, Good Shot But Not Great With Rifles.

Anyway, "good with everything"... We later found out that wasn't quite true. I'm sure a lot of other contestants will be made to look silly when it comes to axe throwing, or slingshots. This guy had the misfortune of being first.

What I think is funny is that this is a simple show, meant to take people with very focused skill sets, and apply those to areas which they have no expertise in at all. Why defend it so much? The guy admits himself that he's no expert with WWII rifles. Whats the big deal? Knowing that, did we really expect him to be a sharpshooter at any range? This particular person is well known for pistol shooting. Cool. I'd take a class from him based on reputation and word of mouth (thats all any instructor really has to go on.) But you can bet I wouldn't plunk down $300 for him to teach me how to shoot WWII surplus rifles. :)

In the end its just a reality show that happens to touch on an interesting topic. With the reality unfortunately comes drama like this.

Ok, so I DVRed it and watched the first episode last night. I will watch again as the seeing the different formats and the shooting will be cool. I am pulling for that kid. I like his attitude and hope he shows some of these macho guys a thing or two. :D

But, does it really have to be "Survivor" I mean I am not a reality show person because I do not care nor want to see "drama". The competition part is great but the politics part of this is going to get old fast for me. Plus I will have to admit to my wife that I am watching a reality show.... just not right....

Anybody who has any amount of shooting should know that on any given day you can be the Golden Boy or the one sent home.

Oh, I hear you there especially in front of a camera and with unfamiliar equipment for sure. But, he did deserve to be the one to go. He was the one behind the trigger and was the team leader. The buck stops there...

Great there I go getting into a reality show... My man room is going to get redecorated with doilies (did I even spell it right?).

Yeah! We could have a rifle shoot off where people buy a target for $25, and after shooting a prelimenary pre determined course of fire under the supervision of a trusted board member, we post pictures of our results. Then the best of the group get together and have a shootoff. The proceeds can go to Rucker and the event can be coordinated by Westberg............. Wait a minute............ This all sounds strangely familiar......... :hmm:
