I've not had the pleasure of shooting next to the Gunny. But, I'll happily take your word for it.

In packing up my reloading room last night, I discovered where 4 of our 1911 magazines had been hiding. I think 1911 magazines are like rabbits. They multiply under the radar and then BOOM! You are infested with them. (Don't get me wrong, more bunnies is a good thing, just like more magazines. Gotta shoot at something...)

What you can do though, is compare price points. Put a $500 glock up against a $500 1911 (pick your maker). If somebody would do that extensively, then I might pay attention. Comparing $500 guns to $1500 guns just isn't logical, and it exposes a person's ignorance if they believe they are making a legitimate argument by doing that.

First off, a Glock can be purchased new from Streichers for $400 ... Or about $550 in the sporting good shops. Many of the 1911's that are being mentioned and compared, Kimber/Nighthawk and so on, are $1,000 - $2,000 on up. These are vastly different price points to be comparing pistols. It is expected that you are getting something different for your money when you spend over a thousand bucks.

Also, it is easy to say that you know of a guy that had a 1911 do this or that, but even though all 1911's are based on the same platform, the fact that they are made by a dozen+ companies with a dozen+ different standards for quality control and fit and finish, it is difficult to make a broad comparison.

The reality is that they serve similar, but different purposes, and have features to reflect that.
