And as fate would have it, I just bought a new Sideguard holster with the improved clip on it!! It's for my 9mm BUL which is really a Tanfoglio polymer frame compact slide, weighing in at 25 ounces (like a CZ RAMI P) and costing only $335 from CDNN. This is going to be my bicycle gun, and perhaps my chainsaw and working my butt off gun because of the plastic frame, which greatly reduces chances of rust.
And on that topic, Sideguard holsters come with an acrylic topcoat inside and out, so the leather is pretty much waterproof from the get-go.
Here's the left side of the holster, and note the double layer of leather at the mouth of the holster to stiffen it and also provide some additional padding. The holster covers the gun all the way to the back of the beavertail, so the gun can't possibly poke you no matter how you move.

Here's the right side of the holster, and note how the double layer of leather curves around and also serves as the clip anchor. In this case, simple is also elegant. As far as the clip, note that it is sewn AND riveted into place. Other clips are generally just sewn, and can sometime move a bit. In this case, the clip and the holster are ONE piece, and cannot be seperated by anything less than a Sawzall with a hacksaw blade in it.

Here's my hand holding the gun in the holster. Note how my hand is in FULL contact with the gun except for my trigger finger, so I have the proper grip before I draw, but the trigger and safety are still fully covered. The white stuff on the leather is baby powder, which takes some of the abrasiveness of the rough side of the leather away when it's against your skin. Baby powder is also reccommended for the inside to lubricate the leather so that you can regulate the retention level of the holster to get the draw you want. As delivered, these holsters come
TIGHT, so you can loosen them up to the level you want.

The Sideguard Maker's Mark pressed into the leather. Nice touch. If that mark isn't there, then it isn't a Sideguard (TM)!!

Note the tapered end of the holster, which will prevent the end of the holster from biting you in the hip when you sit down. (And that hurts, believe me!!)

The clip!! As you can see, once you get this spring steel hook under the lower edge of your gunbelt, your holster CANNOT come back off no matter what. I'm not sure what the load rating is on the hook, but with a good rigger's belt underneath it you could probably come close to lifting somebody (smaller than me...

)off the ground by pulling up on the holster.

And finally, 17 rounds plus 1 in the chamber is a LOT of ammo!! My choice is CorBon Pow'r Balls, which are a bit of a contradiction in terms, because this is EXPANDING ball ammo! The bullet nose is the classic ball ogive of the 9mm round that gives excellent feeding, but this is done with a polymer ball swaged into the nose of a jacketed soft lead bullet. When the bullet hits its target, the ball moves back into the lead and forces it to expand, no matter what. As such, you can't get the same kind of hollowpoint clogging that you can when the perp is wearing heavy clothing, so that problem is avoided altogether. The velocity and ft-lbs of this ammo pretty much speaks for itself, and with 18 rounds you're looking at 8,694 ft-lbs of hitting power without reloading.
