I will likely only be adding one new child to the family this next year.
I would like to build my first rifle this year, and when I say build I don't just mean pick out the combo of parts and assemble. I want to engineer and fabricate a state of the art long range competition rifle with some never before seen features (for its class) in hopes of it being successful in 1000 yard F-Class. The overall idea is the bring as much IBS heavy gun ideas (200lb rifles) into the F-class arena (22lb rifle). Wherever possible components will have to be carbon fiber and any aluminum components will have to be put on a harsh diet, this means removing ever last spec of material that I can without compromising the structural integrity of the assembly. It's a good thing I got some awesome software at my disposal, Solidworks, ProE and a full FEA package. So far it’s looking like it will be a 284 WIN wildcat, probably a 284 Shehane, likely a 32” 1.45” diameter Brux barrel screwed into an octagonal BAT 3 lug action, Kelblys BR trigger group and my current 12-42 Nightforce NXS.
VERY early look at the project, it could completely change before I get ready to start building it, and clearly this is in an 75% done state. I don't have a trigger group or action in hand so I put place holders in there for now, as far as the CAD gos the assigned weights of the components are correct so I can still predict the final weight accurately but the actual dimensions will change once I get components in hand.
