Nothing illegal about them kicking him out for it either.

I'd like to see that case.... Seems to me it falls under "Landlord cannot disallow". There's gotta be someone with a rich dad willing to take that on.

Heh. You're thinking what I'm thinking.

I agree with you from a legal perspective, but that would be a very tricky case to get into. I guarantee that the U of MN would get involved, and the media coverage would be substantial. In other words...the test case needs to have a very good lawyer and we would need GREAT spokespeople, because they would try to demonize us and nail us in the leg at every turn.

Back to being just a guy.
No, not that guy. Or that other one either.

I contacted an acquaintance at St Thomas Residence Life (Dorm Administration) -- he indicated they'd work with you on a storage solution (didn't say where though)...he did think it was mighty "proactive" of you to be thinking in advance like this!
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

I thought I had the "Notify Upon Reply" selected... And one month later... meh.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I'll definitely be living off campus, so I'm not worried about what UST thinks on this matter.

I have a friend who's daughter is heading off to Montana U this fall. Right in the online dorm guide is a statement that guns are allowed and a arms locker is provided for storage. Imagine that.

I just got told by the store manager at the Cabelas in Rogers that they can't sell me an AR-15 despite my permit to purchase because I'm only 20. I even read the requirement from the application to him:

"Must be at least 18 years old to purchase a handgun or semiautomatic military-style assault weapons from a licensed dealer, and under federal
law must be at least 21 years old to acquire handguns from licensed dealers."

But he flatly insisted the state didn't know what it was talking about.

The same guy refused to sell me .22 rounds a few months ago too, insisting that because it "could" be used in a handgun you have to be 21...

seems like another reason to shop with Thunderjohn, Gunstop and/or Frontiersman.

When I went to South Dakota some years back, some of the dorms had "game rooms", which were for cleaning game, not playing. :D They also had firearm storage at the front desk of each dorm.

Yeah, I tired showing the guy the permit application form since I sort of expected a bit of a hassle, but the guy just refused to listen to me at all. Said it was illegal for me to put it on layaway as well, even though at the end of the layaway period I'd be 21 anyway. Doesn't the permit and age laws only apply to the transfer anyway? I should have been able to put the darn thing on layaway at 17!

At Gander Mountain the guys knew what the damn laws were at least, the only problem is they sold out of the rifle i wanted on Thanksgiving. Bummer.

At any rate, I think I'm going to try Owatonna tomorrow, see if they are more reasonable since they still have the sale going on. If that doesn't pan out I'll go local, pay a bit more.

Chances are you'd actually pay less.
