what do you do when crossing to WI

Postby mmarino on Tue Dec 14, 2010 10:46 am

i carry 100% of the time but for the holidays we always get together at my in-laws in WI, so what do you do in this case being that is not legal to carry in WI (hopefully that'll change eventually), do i actually have to take the gun out and put it in the trunk? or is it legal/ok to lock the gun in one of those little gun safes and put it under the seat?. i guess in not sure exactly what is the legal/right thing to do
and on the same note in MN is that little safe under the seat ok for those instances taht you cannot carry your gun? (i.e. when going into schools and such)

I have one of the COM lock boxes ('safe' is too strong a word IMHO), with its cable around the seat support, under the front seat for those occasions. Like they show here.

But I guess I don't really know for sure if Wisconsin would want you to have the ammo separate. If so I'm a criminal.

Yeah, might as well go back and turn yourself in.Can't be loaded and ammo has to be in a different place.

Just uncover your gun. Open carry is legal in WI...

Better yet drag your loaded gun behind that car... that way you're not transporting it in the vehicle. :D

I turn around and go back.

Tell the wife to give it a few months. 'Scony will soon have a carry law.

Yeah, you [permit holder!] are legal with the loaded weapon locked up in Minnesota -- unless I misunderstood my instructors. (Which, before anybody asks, were Joel and Ttousi.) I mostly stayed awake in class, but maybe I'm a criminal here too.

Should be legal just in a soft zip up case as long as it's unloaded and ammo is stored seperatly............................... ;)

The firearm must be fully encased. Ammo doesn't have to be stored separately. Magazine can be loaded in the case, just not in the firearm.

+1

Having the ammo separate is not required (mn and wi). I wish that people would stop spreading false info. Unloaded and cased is all the statute reads in MN and WI.

A buddy of mine carries a G19, unloaded, in a fanny pack with a loaded mag in the pack as well. When in WI, it's a legal way for him to carry an unloaded and cased firearm. When needed he can insert the mag and rack the slide.

ok so one of those little lock boxes under the seat is legally ok as long as the magazine is not in the gun but can the loaded magazine be stored in the same container or does it have to be completely separate?. i have heard so many different things about it such as the ammo and gun must be locked separetely, must be locked in the trunk etc etc.
