That safe is one of those (keeps the honest guys out) safes. 21 gage is only a step above pop can.

It's not that flimsy! The weak point on these really is the cable anyway, unless you can bolt it down.

I have a safe in my vehicle. It's actually sold as a handgun safe (among other things), but isn't specifically called a handgun (or firearm) "case."

It's my understanding that the intent of the law is to prevent road rage and drive-by shootings by making it difficult access a loaded gun in a car. Okay, well, in the real world, nut jobs and criminals don't care about laws, so they'll carry an uncased, loaded weapon in the car anyway. It's not going to prevent anyone from getting shot by a bad guy. It will certainly prevent law-abiding citizens from protecting themselves and the other occupants of a car in dangerous situations. It also creates the potential for an LEO to arrest law-abiding gun owners depending on the political flavor of the jurisdiction and/or whether or not the LEO is having a bad day. Anyhow, the law is ultimately open to the interpretation of a judge, should it get to that point.

For what it's worth (I am not a lawyer), my interpretation is that, for example, the case my XD came in is a "case designed to carry a firearm." It is a small plastic case lined with foam, with cutouts shaped specifically to contain the firearm. It has a carrying handle, so you can carry the firearm, unloaded of course, in the case. The case is designed to transport the firearm whether it be during shipping, walking, or driving from point A to point B. You can lock it with a small luggage padlock, but I don't think the law requires a locked case.

It isn't so straightforward for something like a safe, although it could ultimately serve the same purpose and satisfy the intent of the law. I would imagine that it would be beneficial if you (and your lawyer) can show that the safe is designed to carry a firearm.
