Any experience with getting PTP from West StPaul PD?

Postby promod1385 on Thu Jan 27, 2011 11:10 am

Anyone dealt with WestStPaul in reference to a PTP? Dropping off my app this afternoon. I am a recently new MN resident and will have my freshly issued MN drivers license and my passport as ID. Anything else to keep in mind?

Be proactive. Ask them: "Should I come pick it up after the legally mandated 7 day wait or will you mail it to me?"

You could just tell them to hurry up so they can have the joy of busy work, since HF161 will get passed by the house now that it's out of committee, it'll hit the senate and be pushed through no probs, then off to .gov Pill Popper's desk where he'll veto it, but it'll be over ridden by a super majority in the house and the senate.

When I applied for my PTP in Bloomington they told me 2 weeks. Took 2 weeks to the day before it showed up.

Ahh..... Mark Elliot's fantastic interpretation of the law.

7 WORKING Days, plus the day you applied, plus 2 business days for mail = 2 weeks.

Glad I don't have to deal with him anymore.

I've had my carry permit for 7 years so I haven't had to deal with them since then. It seems to me back when I did they got my pp in the allotted 7 days.
I will never apologize for being an American.

Glad I live in Sherburne then. Took 5 days. Went in Monday, received on Friday. They first asked me if I was going to get a PTC as then I wouldn't have to get a new PTP/PTC for 5 years, when I said no, I just want to do PTP for now, they reminded me a few times how easy it is to get a PTC and that I should get it if I ever felt the need. They way they acted, it was as if they want people to get the PTC. Which I have thought of doing (note: my wife's ex had recently made a few possible veiled threats, but I only have to deal with that P.O.S. for 4 years, then my stepson chooses where he lives and we have no further interaction with Chief Inspector Mr. P.O.S.) but my employer is definitely not gun friendly in any way.

Funny. That's not what someone else said about Sherburne County.

I'm in Hastings, not West St. Paul, but I'm at 21 days from when I turned in my application. I lived in a few different apartments in Winona during college so I had no problem with an extra few days that they said they needed, but I've checked in twice and its been "sitting on the officers desk" for a while now. I don't remember it taking this long last year when I did it.

Call the police chief (he's rarely the one handling the process, but he is in charge), be polite, and let him know that what is goin on, and that you are aware that state law only permits 7 days, and ask him to correct the situation.

That did the trick. Just had to talk to the right person I guess. Thanks for the advice.

Glad you got it straightened out. Police ARE public SERVANTS. Some of them even realize it.
