Safe way to do FTF transactions

I have had a problem where a seller sugested a place that I did not feel comfortable at. I suggested another place (very near by) and they got all upset about it. I bailed on that one.

Would it be unreasonable to ask for a copy of the buyer's photo ID and permit (or Seller's) before meeting? I wouldn't have a problem with it, but I'm not that paranoid about stuff like that.

Gunshops are a fine place to meet, especially since they are not good places to draw down on someone...

I personally don't like the meeting in a parking lot thing; feels too much like a drug deal or something.
I would much rather meet in the comfort of my or the other party's home.
I would feel comfortable with most people on this forum, assuming they had been around for a while and after going over some of their past posts (especially if they had a history of buying/selling on here).
If it was someone with few posts on here, I guess I would try to go to a gun range if possible, or would meet in a parking lot -I just wouldn't like it.

When I go to FTF transactions,

- I ask a friend to come along in a second car if the value of my firearm is a large amount (this varies on how safe I feel)
- I leave a timed email to be sent out to my family
- I leave a note
- I leave a voice message on my answering machine

Let me get this straight. You are admittedly paranoid about firearm transfer transactions. Yet, you post on an internet forum that you inherited $60,000+ in 1911s.

I've done more FTF sales in parking lots than anywhere else. You can do them in a parking lot relatively discrete. I usually will just move the gun to the back seat of my vehicle and allow or preform an inspection. I personally don't want people to come to my house, nor do I care to enter theirs.

The difference between the place they suggested and mine was that with thier place nobody would have ever found my body...............

As I understand it, gun shops do not want you doing transactions in their parking lots, as it can get them in mucho trouble with the ATF. Something to do with unlicensed sale on their premises? Someone who knows exactly what it is can chime in.

However, since most people know where places like Bill's are, I often suggest meeting a parking lot either across the street from or next to a gun shop. For example, there's never anyone in the strip mall across from Bill's North.

I have a done some FTF transactions. I have had guys come to my office... I had my emplolyee in the next room with Colt. I went to one of those guys homes to do a FTF ... I was alone and nervous in even with a Sig on my hip... I found out he had an an FFL when I got there. Whew.
I my best feeling is skip any transaction that ""feels" weird.
Bring a good man along to cover "6" and listen to his gut..... ( buy him lunch when its done)
dont bother Using an open line cell phone.... (some else hears the shots and you might get the EMTs or the Coroner there a few minutes faster)
Use common sense.....

Dont go to north Minneapolis by boarded up warehouses
Avoid cemeteries, docks, junk yards, water fronts, meat packing plants, papermills, livestock feeding lots and Zoos
Avoid meeting at I 35 rest stops at "Sun UP"

I would recommend directing the potential buyer to pick up a prepaid cell phone that you leave along side a park bench, then direct them to criss cross around the city while you follow from behind watching for a tail. Then have them go to the nearest airport and go through the TSA pat-down screening where you will meet them and go to a waiting taxi to be dropped off at a prepared location that has live streaming web cams monitored by no less than 3 LEO's. Oh wait, that might have been a Bruce Willis or Clint Eastwood movie I was thinking about. Nevermind...
