Someday, someone will have a series on "Violence". The relevance of the "gun" part is that folks who want to be very violent, will use a weapon, often a gun. Maybe then the choice of weapon will be recognised as irrelevant.

But if we study the psycology that makes folks decide to be violent, we may be able to actually stop a lot of injury and deaths. This "gun" kind of thing distracts from all positive efforts for understanding. It is impossible to believe that the causes of "gun" violence are different than vehicle violence, or knife violence, or physical violence, or possibly "full moon" violence.

I wish SOMEBODY in these movements would just SAY that. Why do they always put "gun" in the name of the organization? (to get money I suppose.)

MPR's investigation of gun violence is funded by grants from the Joyce Foundation and the David Bohnett Foundation, administered through the John Jay College Center on Media, Crime and Justice.

Perhaps ALL news media should be completely financed by governemnt. When you allow private fundation money, or private money disquised as "advertising", it influences content. ;)

I see what you did there, wise guy.

My very liberal SIL, who just happens to be a special ed teacher, thinks all this could be stopped by more money for special ed.

Today's installment really got me annoyed. All I could focus on was how easy it is to pass responsibility on to someone else or circumstances. There are victims and than there are victims.

The Joyce Foundation does have a history in its funding, doesn't it.

This is an interesting statement... I see what you mean.. “an offensive weapon is an offensive weapon" weather it is a "pointed stick", a baseball bat, a knife, a firearm or a dirty bomb.
The intent was the desired result i.e. robbery, carjacking or just plain terror. The knife, the gun the baseball bat are just "tools" like screwdriver and socket wrench.

The study you suggest no doubt has been done countless times but results are suppressed or ignored by those who seek control.

I think I will push for legislation to run BATF checks on new purchases of pneumatic tools... maybe a 5 day waiting period.....

Neither the ATF nor Minneapolis police can quantify the number of crime guns that have originated from gun shows. However, Minneapolis Deputy Police Chief Rob Allen estimates they make up just a small portion of guns recovered in Minneapolis.
