I know wal-mart in Eden Prairie is not at all against firearms nor carrying them in store. I was stopped by nice little elderly lady (Greeter) that noticed my 1911 on my right hip in black leather holster under my shirt. She told me she knew what the bulge was becasue she had been in armed security for years. I asked to speak with Store manager and they proceeded to tell her the wal-mart policy which does not ban guns in store Per Permit Holder. So I wouldn't go as far to say they are anti-gun but yes they sell cheap stuff from what I remember I would not be buying a firearm from there in future at all.

For the record, the Cambridge and Cloquet Walmarts sold firearms as of earlier this year. The firearms were of good quality and priced low but perhaps not much different than ordering online. They could special order many rifles and shotguns that were not in stock. It was a bit of a hassle to purchase as they need to get the manager over and that person tends to be busy. You filled out the 4473 NICS stuff on a computer.

They've ALWAYS had guns at my local Walmart.

A couple of the gun counter clerks are very knowledgeable and re-load as well.

And while you guys seemd all worried about driving the local gun shops out of business no one seems to complain about buying white box ammo from them and saving a bunch of cash.

I have bought several guns at WalMart over the years. All special order all at a substantially less cost than any of the other firearms retailers around town. I am sorry, I do not beleive in paying more than I have to because somehow my purchase has tp have a greater meaning. It is not like remingtons manufactured for walmart are any different than the ones they make for your local gun shop. If you feel you need to pay more for the same item because it makes you feel better, go for it.

Yes, with Walmart there can be a hassle factor, you often have to know the process better than the sales associate, and not every make and model will make sense to buy there, but just like anything else, do your research and you can save some cash. My most econmical purchase was a ruger no.1 I got at a steal. I to this day do not understand how it happened and it may have been a fluke but I purchased it special order through Walmart at $700 less than Cabela's was willing to order it in for, $800 less than GM (no suprise there), $300 less than a group of others, and $200 less than a local gun shop I do frequent and find has some of the best prices around.

No, but different companies have different ideas about what the best strategy is. If you're a manufacturer, Walmart will pay you $1 for your widget, even though you need $1.02 to sustain your company. Next year, they'll be willing to pay you $.95, and they'll happily continue to squeeze you until you're out of business, then it's on to the next sucker. And no, nobody is forcing you to sell to Walmart, but they are a force to be reckoned with. Walmart will pay employees the absolute minimum they can get by with. If child slave labor was available in the US, they probably wouldn't use it, but it would be a very difficult decision for them.

Costco is also interested in their bottom line, but they take a much different view on what's good for their company. An analyst said, "Costco continues to be a company that is better at serving the club member and employee than the shareholder." Sinegal [Costco CEO] just shrugs. "You have to take the **** with the sugar, I guess. We think when you take care of your customer and your employees, your shareholders are going to be rewarded in the long run. And I'm one of them [the shareholders]; I care about the stock price. But we're not going to do something for the sake of one quarter that's going to destroy the fabric of our company and what we stand for." Costco pays higher wages, and in return have happier, more productive, workers. That means less turnover, less shrinkage, better customer service, etc.

Not to mention that all Walmart managers and executives breakfast on live puppies and wash them down with kitten blood. (or so I hear)

Not necessarily. Some claim to, a few actually try to work toward (somebody's opinion of) the greater good. A small local retailer has more flexibility to give you a break — or be rude to you — because they know you personally.

I think of Wal-Mart, and most big companies, more as amoral than immoral.

I have no doubts whatsoever that the City of Saint Paul made such a request. I am surprised that they haven't tried to shut down I35E because too many speeding tickets were written there. I have visions of Melvin Carter and Dave Thune believing that residents in the area will be rushing to Wal-Mart to buy a Glenfield Model 60 (on sale, of course) to settle disputes.
