Do the crime do the time. If he was still a danger to society he should not be free. Any ex convict should have the right to self defense (meaning carry a gun), or he should not be free. What were we talking about again?

as a member of many other CC and OC and gun forums i have to say, im shocked to see how a person asking for advice and help is treated like such an animal in this forum...for all u smart *** guys kno it could have been some retarded mistake that his buddy got charged with a car theft, mayb he borrowed his moms car and she didnt know and reported it stolen? mayb a friend said he could use the car and then they had a dispute and he told the cops he stole it, and dumb thing could have happened..and as one pointed out, he was a young punk juvenile, everyone deserves a second chance. not a third in my philosophy but atleasta sencond chance...im reluctant to say that i do not like this forum as much as my other "bigger" more mainstream forums i belong to. where i hang out people would have atleast helped him or been polite, most of u guys yelled at him like dirt. think back to the time when u were a n00b and needed help...im just apolled, and embarrassed to say i joined this forum .

Coming to an Internet forum to gather legal advice is like going to your local baker to get advice on how to cure tuberculosis. It is not going to happen. Forums are platforms for personal opinion. Not everyone is going to be on your side. That should not come as a surprise, as it evidently did.

You come up with a list of "maybe's". We can all do that. Maybe all this auto theft nonsense occurred on Mars. Who knows? BUT, it was stated as fact that a purchase was denied on the basis of a felony conviction, a conviction which in Minnesota is considered a violent offense. That, in and of itself, causes many here to be a bit alarmed, counting myself as one of that group. If you do not like the situation then work to change it, either through existing legal remedies or petition to have laws enacted/changed. Yes, it is just that simple. Therein you have your second chance delivered on a legal sized pad of paper.

does anyone know or been through this or had a similar situation ?

I don't know if I would equate this as asking for legal advice. But more like for direction as how to proceed. So I see no problem with the post at all, why not ask? Maybe there are people who have been in same or similar situation and can help out. Maybe saving this person time and money.

it isn't the advice that's given that is the problem. (although often times some of that advice is less than helpful) its the discussion that the OP has at a place which is arguably pretty easy for the general public to see.

"Anything you say can and will be used against you in the Court of Law."

If the OP says something incriminating, while asking for help, it isn't hard to imagine the opposing side using that against him/her.

Almost always, its best to keep your yap shut, and seek help from the appropriate professionals. (Sometimes the potential for that to cost money is probably what drives some folks to ask elsewhere.)
