CMP guys, please school me...

Postby bensdad on Sun May 15, 2011 12:56 am

I gotta have a Garand. Somebody walk me through the process of getting one through CMP. Is it pretty simple?

Pretty much all you have to do is attend an Appleseed, join the RWVA (if you're not already a member of a qualifying club), and pay the man his money. Then wait. Tom Petty says it's the hardest part.

I am a member of some local club so I have the option of getting the CMP rifles. That is pretty much all you need and the ordering info provided by TC95GT.

If I remember correctly, being a USPSA or IDPA member qualifies too.

It's really easy. The paperwork just takes some time and has to be notarized. I just read the material on the website and followed the directions exactly.

Took about 45 days from the time I submitted my order before my Garand arrived.

Thanks!

Can someone confirm this? I thought the local club had to be affiliated with CMP program.

It does.

And they have a listing of local clubs on the ODCMP website.

USPSA here:

http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/clubSear ... N&state=MN

Listed at the bottom of each state.

Couldn't find IDPA listed as an aproved organization.

I know Bensdad has shot USPSA, so that should work (if he is a member of USPSA). FR&PC is also listed as an aproved club.

I picked up the Special Grade (new stock, barrel) - it came in as a Springfield in the 5 million series. It looks awesome.

I haven't shot it yet - but everything is in great shape. I'm hoping to get it out sometime this week.
