I was wondering when someone would mention .270 Winchester. :D

If you're only looking to do sight-ins and 700-yard kill shots, it's perfect.

My family arsenal includes
Ruger M77 in .243 with an old 3-9 x 40 scope (#1 Son has NEVER had to track a deer)
Remington 700 "Mountain" in .243 for Mrs Tman w/ a Leupold VXI 3-9 x 40 scope (she's deadly accurate with that, and it's light enough that she doesn't complain)
Remington 7400 in .30-06 w/ a VXI for me.

My next deer rifle may likely be a Tikka T3, in LH. I love the feel of that action.

Benelli M1S90 12ga, and whatever slugs I dig out of the ammo can that year (usually whatever was cheap closing out the last fall).

I usually strap a .44 on as well--for very, very vicious deer, or the chance for a close-range shot.

SE MN is shotgun only and I use a Mossburg 500 20 gauge with a rifled barrel, 2x red dot scope and Lightfield sabot slugs.

Here is my slug zone solution viewtopic.php?f=9&t=21115

In rifle country its either a CZ527 in 223, or Savage 110 in 30/06.
