I don't have a CCW Badge but I am in my mid-70's, 75 to be exact. It really bugs me when I hear people thinking I'm near the end of my life. I still hunt, put up my own deer stands and I ride a mountain bike as well as a motorcycle.

Yesterday I carried six 50 pound bags of salt from my truck into my basement. I have 3 grandsons in their 20's that can't hold my recurve bow at full draw. Last year we had a little contest in my basement and none of the grandsons could bench press a 150 pound barbell even once that I could do 10 reps with. They are all much bigger than me too.

Most of my close relatives lived well into their 90's so I suppose I have some good genes. I never think of myself as old even though I guess I am. I still do everything I did 40-50 years ago.

Sorry for the rant but everyone in their 70's is not old. Even though some may be weak and frail, I'm not one of them.

You're not typical.

Mom just died at 97...the longevity gene is in her family...high 90's is normal for them.

BUT, your corneas and blood vessels started hardening at 40 and at 75 you probably wish there were other body parts that would start hardening.

I hope you didn't think I started this thread with any mention this guy was old. I know better. Your only as old as you let yourself be! I'm 52 and want to stay feeling younger, so I run and excersise. Maybe not as much as I should, But I'll be damned if I'm going to let some young punk beat me up the mountain when were packing out Elk!

Nope, I didn't think you started the thread with any age thing in mind MNMike. It was a couple of posts down when 12smile said "At 70, (I'm 60) the guy is at the end of his life expectancy..." :o

Well statistically he's right, sir. You, however, sound well on your way to becoming an outlier. :)

I also was definitely not intending any disrespect in my (I thought humorous) restatement of Thunder71's comment either. In fact, I'm not quite 40 and, based on my family history and the family history you stated, I wouldn't be altogether shocked if you outlive me!

You may live to become the "oldest man in the world", or you may be "struck by a bus" tomorrow - just like the rest of us. So live life to the fullest for as long as you can, and ignore all those whippersnappers givin' you any crap about your age... ;)

It may be that an overt display of a carry badge by a 70 year old out walking in a place where there have been multiple assaults is an attempt on his part to let it be well known to any and all thugs that he is armed. Certainly the last thing a 70 year old needs is to be assaulted and this may be a way he hopes to minimize the chances by forewarning people--maybe something like the rattlesnake coiling and rattling a warning. Usually that is all that is needed for the snake to be left alone. Predators generally look for clues to cull out the weak and vulnerable--a 70 year old walking alone may well look weak and vulnerable. Perhaps he hopes that the badge will be a sign to warn predators off?

All I know is as I get older older times seems to go by faster. I need to stop slow down and realize what's important in life.

Well, I'm not 70, but my question is:
Should I or shouldn't I display my CCW badge? :D

The badge is dumb. Not sure why anyone would want one.

Personally I use the quick deploy "CCW" shoulder sash in neon green. Unlike the stupid badge, the day-glow sash can easily be seen from as far as 500 yards, and let's everyone know I have a gun....... But not to worry, because I'm one of the good guys!
