ive been carrying for about 15 years (was fortunate enough to have it before the laws changed)...i open and conceal carry just depends on the weather and what im wearing...the last thing in the world i want to think about is grabbin one more bulky piece of equipment that may mistake me for one of our great officers of the law (to all the cops on here take it or leave it, ive never had very many productive or worthwhile experiences with an officer in my 40 years except for once when i was like 10 years old and he gave me a free coupon for a sunday at DQ for using my hand signals on my bicycle)
the badges are dumb, your gun is the only badge you need, youve earned the right to carry it whether open or concealed so do it...if some one asks, take the time to reassure them that if someone like me is openly carrying means that i more than likely have gone through all the steps to obtain it legally and have had a background check to make sure im not a criminal...i do feel if your going to open carry its also your job to educate the people that may not understand or even be against it...yea ive heard all the arguments against open carry,(your the first target, some will try to grab it, blah blah blah)
as a side note ive been asked a few times about my gun on my hip....but was only bugged bad once when i wore my ruger45 with extra clips in my full shoulder harness into best buy in shorts and a tshirt, i never had intended to go shopping that day and it just happened that i did...the manager at best buy knew there was nothing he could do about it, was very courteous, and asked me if i would conceal it better next time, i giggled and said sure and new full well i deserved the extra hassle even when some chick leaving screamed "OH MY GOD IS THAT A REAL GUN!!!" i turned around and said "yea it really is"...of course im not your average person either im very heavily tattooed which makes people judge me right off the bat...there was a cop in the parking lot when i was leaving but he just waved at me as he drove through
