Would you trust these 9mm bullets for Zombie Defense?

Postby The Lance on Thu Jul 14, 2011 10:32 am

I have a question. Founds these really cheap 9mm WPA's at the Fleet Farm in Blaine

for 8.99 for a box of 50 I know they are steel cased but does my glock care?

Would these cheapo rounds be reliable enough to protect myself in the event of a zombie apocolypse?

Or should i just forget about it and still buy something a bit higher quality.

I plan on purchasing upto around a 1000 rounds. I figured I would make a rule to myself that everytime I buy some ammo for the firing range at bill's in CIrcle Pines I would buy a box to stock up..

I use these for IDPA/USPSA in my glock and I've never had anything fail on me yet. When you shoot a bunch and don't reload cheap isn't bad if they work.

They are Wolf steel cased ammo. A bit dirtier (takes longer to clean) and the steel is harder on your gun. I bought 1000 rounds myself but found it worth the slight extra cost for brass ammo.

I feel zombies are no different than other bad guys and that typical self defense rounds in large quantity are optimal. With that assumption, quality JHP are a much better choice than the wolf FMJ rounds.

So basically i just have to clean them off real quick before using them? Can anyone say alcohol bath?

I don't plan on firing these very often as like i said they are stored for emergency use only..

i personally prefer Federal ammunition instead as they are made in Anoka MN.. However going to gander mountain to buy them makes me feel like I am getting an anal cleansing

except zombies come in masses and feed on the living.. Hence why its good to have a mass quantity of ammo ... Haven't you've ever seen dawn of the dead?

Your Glock may not mind but your extractor might not like the steel cases.

I run blazer aluminum case 9mm rounds threw my sigma all day long with no issues. And my local fleet store has then for only $9.99 a box.

Read my post again. I said large quantity of self defense JHP ammo. You are going to trust your life to cheap crap plinking ammo?

The Wolf ammo is dirty cause it is steel cased. Brass cased ammo expands and seals the chamber when fired. Steel cases do not so the combustion gases travel between the case and the chamber and cause more deposits in places you don't want them.

Edit: I have shot steel case ammo and it is not a big deal but why do it when you can get brass cased stuff for the same price? Course I only use fmj for practice and will be devistating zombies with JHP+ P ammo.

ANY ammo is good ammo during the zombie apocolypse. That being said you get what you pay for. It's usually dirty and doesn't feed as nicely(30rnd AR mag). I've fired thousands of rounds of Wolf and haven't noticed any increased wear on internals. Most of it through my AR but I've run some through my pistols as well with no issues.

These should do just fine:

Since there aren't any zombies anyhow.
