Depending on your goal here you are probably heading into "could have a new AR" cost range for what you are going to spend getting this Colt up to snuff... $400 original purchase price + $275 to clean up and paint the damaged parts is not a good deal in my opinion. I still think if this is to be a "beater" rifle you'd be just as well off spending $130 on a matched upper/lower and possibly a replacement LPK to match the right pin sizes. (http://www.surplusammo.com/products/*Su ... ipped.html)
You can buy a brand new Spikes 16" upper for $500 and pin it to a brand new lower for $100 (or less) + lower build kit (assume Palmetto LBK for $99) and for $700 you've got a brand new rifle of upper-mid tier quality that likely will resell for what you have in it. After fixing up the Colt you will have more than $700 into a rifle that will probably be impossible to resell.
IMHO - if you can't fix it yourself, dump the rifle for what you have into OR consider buying a it and go another direction before it turns into a money pit.

ETA: oops, I see you updated recently. I got all excited and jumped the gun.
This is EJSG19's daily episode of not keeping up. I apologize to the entire board. Trolls excepted.
