Fire at SCAPSA Range

Postby Pitel on Sat Sep 03, 2011 6:41 am

for those of you who attend matches there ,

On Thursday late afternoon, we lost all of our props and trailer to a fire that started in the storage garage. It appears that it could be a total loss.

It was not arson.

Here are some photo's of the loss.

Tuesday night league on September 6th is canceled. We do expect to be up and running for the following week.

What a shame. How does this happen without help??

from Bob Mills for those who don't get the emails:
I have some very bad news. At approximately 6:00 pm on Thursday, September 1st the garage at SCAPSA was totally destroyed by fire. The trailer was also damaged but is still standing. The fire department pulled off part of the back wall and the back room was damaged by fire and water.

(edited)

While we could probably still put together enough props to have league next Tuesday, I think it would be better to have a work day to clean up the mess and salvage what we can.

League is canceled on Tuesday, September 6th! I will be at the range at 10:00 am that day. I hope as many of you as possible will come to help with clean up. Clean up will continue until dark on the 6th so please come and help when you can Tuesday.

This is going to be a difficult time for SCAPSA but we will get through it. I have already talked to Corrine about the possibility of getting a permit to put up a new building. We have long talked about a new building and now we may have to make it happen.

a member was burning used targets in a steel barrel and left the range before the fire was completely put out. I am not naming names because the person feels absolutely horrible about this. It is really a bummer.......................

This truly is a shame. I know the time and effort it takes to build up club supplies.

What is their regular attendance like? I hope they get a lot of people come for matches to raise the funds soon. If they have a special event, I will be sure to show my support even if it is out of my way.

we have been buying and building props for years. the last two years we probably spent around $5000 in props.

We have some insurance , it is just undetermined at this point. We also have some money but, we just dont have an idea yet of cleanup and rebuilding.

We may need to hold that "BBQ" match................................:)

If I may, get a list of props etc that were destroyed and post it. It should include perhaps a lumber list etc too. There are an awful lot of people who might just read it and say I can get/ have that, and make a donation.

+1

I wonder if someone contacted the NRA and made a case for how helpful this club and it's action shooting activities have been in introducing firearms and sporting to the Minnesota area, if that might produce some sort of grant from them to get us back on our feet...

if the poppers are soft, I may be able to talk to my heat treater about re-tempering them. Might be cheaper than replacement. I'll try to make it out after work Tuesday to help.

Tim,

Thanks. No need to come out Tuesday. No work is being done. Appreciate the tempering,

Pm your info again so I can talk to you once we have a plan. I am sure we are going to need as those poppers got pretty toasty.

Standby till after Tuesday. Nobody needs to come out Tuesday. Just insurance stuff and a plan of attack.

Shooters:

The fire clean up at SCAPSA will NOT take place on Tuesday, September 6th as the insurance company must compete an investigation before we can touch anything.

The SCAPSA Tuesday night league will be canceled until further notice.

We are probably going to cancel the rest of league nights. Not official yet but very likely. We are developing a plan right now and don't want to rush or make mistakes.

We will for sure be back in the spring with guns blazing. ;)

I will keep you posted on the cancelations. It is 99% likely.

This is a damn shame :( . I was out there for the second Ruger Rimfire state match for the first time and it's a great range. Bob and the rest of the crew do a great job out there. The crew from Morris wishes you the best of luck with the repairs.
