Horse & Hunt Club

Postby tizzo on Sun Oct 09, 2011 2:45 pm

Any members or former members have feedback on the quality of the facilities and any pros and cons I should be aware of? I'm considering joining, primarily for the pistol range.

Thanks
Kyle

The food is excellent. The sporting clay ranges are excellent and varied. The pistol range is for members only, and that is a bigger hit to the charge card than I really want right now.

I do pigeon shoots down there for ducks unlimited. Nice facility, good food, decent beer. Never shot the trap stages though, just seen em driving the gator around for the phigeon shoots.

Their sporting clay courses are rated as some of the best in the country. They also have 25/50/100/200/300 yd. rifle and of course the pistol range. As someone else pointed out the food is absolutely great there. Call and ask for Erik Goettl if you are interested in getting a free tour. You'll get a tour and then the rest of the day you are treated as a member with full access to the facility (excepting hunting - oh I forgot to mention - excellent hunting there as well). And they have kennels for your dog(s). You should schedule your tour for a Wed - Sun when you know the kitchen will be open so you can try the food there (the elk burger is sooooo gooooood).

I very much like the place and the people there. I've been going there for years for the sporting clays and decided to join this year.

I shoot sporting clays there often. I love the place. The Elk burger is outstanding and so are the elk stuffed mushrooms.

Our company trap shoot is there on Wednesday. I am going to try and check out the pistol range while I am there. I will let you know what I find out.

Very enjoyable. I go there with the wife at least once per month.

While she used to have a membership, we have currently let it lapse. You can use all of the sporting clay venues & trap/skeet without a membership.

Basic membership gets reduced sporting clay costs.

Mid-level membership includes reduced rates on sporting clays & both pistol & rifle range usage.

Upper membership includes above, as well as the "hunting" options. (Dog training, controlled hunts with per bird charge for what you want to kill, etc.)

Great place to shoot, eat & generally have a great time if you enjoy guns. Not terribly expensive, only negative I see is unless you live south of the Loop, it's quite a drive.

Any detail on the Pistol Range.
I live down south and I am tired of BV Range.
Looking for somewhere else.

Thanks.

It's outdoors, about 25-30 feet shooting distance. No regular range officer. Space for roughly 6-8 shooters safely. Couple of small tables for reloading. Small "hut" with bench table.

Basically, it's self policing. You will need to be aware of others safety issues. Most that go there are familiar with guns & gun safety, but the occasional goofball might be there, just like anywhere else.

It's a dirt mound for a backstop kinda thing. Haven't heard about them not allowing it, but never asked either. DADT.

Should not be a problem. We've shot our machine guns out there.

I am kicking myself now.
I thought they only did trap and skeet, Love the place for that.

Hate having to go inside to shoot during nice weather.
Now that it is crappy I find out I can do pistol ....

Oh Well, guess I will be buying a membership once the ice melts.
