People do not get prosecuted and are not held civilly liable unless they knew the person was ineligible or intended to use it in a crime. It's a canard that you are in some way responsible if someone does something stupid with something you don't own and legally sold.

There is a "should have reason to know" clause in the law, too. Again, it's the totality of the circumstances..

Where I come from there is no gun registration so how would anyone proove you sold someone a gun any? When I buy at a gunstore I have had to be backgrounded, if i buy from a person and they want to run a BC, I dont bother to buy, Its not an issue of federal law, its an issue of if they arent a federal officer then they should be impersonating one by wanting to be a secret squirrel operative for the federal government. Since the laws are what they are here, theres not much point in buying from individuals as fas as handguns or AW's unless the price is a huge discount which most are not these days. Geesh how did yall let this state go this far into the crapper?!?! lol.

From what I was told, if you buy a new gun from an FFL, YOUR name comes up if someone looks for your serial number. So if you sold it and someone used x gun and threw it away but was never caught. And the police found it, they would trace it back to you.

But if you buy used from an individual, nobody but you and the seller have no idea you have it (aside from who you tell.)

So to some, it may be worth buying used.

Slow down. There is NO registration here, and no restrictions on private party transfer (beyond same state resident, of age, and ask if they are prohibited). The rest is just paranoid BS. Ignore it, and buy and sell all you want. Most of us do. As far as how this state got this way, you do know that Minnesota is "The Red Star of the North" don't you? Look at our Governor and US Senators. Really. I moved here for work, quality of schools and roads, and the ability to "contribute my fair share" to all the amazing social welfare programs  . Meeting this fun group of people was icing on the cake :D .
