Seeing a lot of long gun builds, does anyone have a handgun build to share?

A few years ago, I worked for a local gunsmith.
The first project he walked me through was the rifle below.
He asked me what caliber would be my choice.
It only took me a minute, or two.
I wanted something in a short action flavor.
A .308 Win. made sense as a parent case, and I liked the selection and versatility in the 7mm bullets.
So, it was easy to choose a 7mm-08 for me, at the time.
Next, was chosing the barrel contour. After the decision was made, a Shilen blank was ordered.
While waiting for the barrel, he walked me through blueprinting the action, choosing colors, and prepping the stock.

After fitting everything, DuraCoat was applied. It was my first DuraCoar project as well.

Features:
Montana Rifle Co action
Shilen bbl
MPI stock
Talley ring/base combo set
Leupold VX-III, 2.5-8x36mm

The latest of my AR builds in 6.5 Grendel:

Lower:
A highly personalized Territorial Gunsmiths Lower
Sully Stock
Troy Ind. QD Sling plate
Ergo grip

Upper:
BCM Upper Rec
BCM Bolt Carrier
BCM Gunfighter CH
Alexander Arms 16" mid-length bbl/bolt
Primary Weapons Custom comp
JP/VTac free-float tube
GG&G FLT ring/base scope mount
Leupold European 2-7x w/ Germ #4 ret

Stock, receivers, and FF tube are in DuraCoat's Coyote. Ergo is their tan. Troy sling plate is their FDE.

Nice Grendel build! How much did you pay for the Sully Stock? They look cool but seems hard to justify the money over a standard A2.

I did some work for Sully and one of his old partners a while back, so I didn't exactly. ;)

I like the stocks. Some of the better prices on them are in the used market. I see them come up in various other boards. I guess they're more of an "acquired taste."

Cool Star Wars engraving on your lower, even if you are rebel scum. An Imperial lower would be pretty badass.

Edit: Geez, you're pretty hardcore you even have the New Republic symbol on the left side.

I Just got done today with my first AR Pistol, had a lot of help from a good friend who has all the tools!!
Took it out as soon as we were done, ran really well, but may need a heavier buffer.

Nice build, did you do the coloring yourself? Do you happen to have any higher resolution pictures?

Well, here's three that I have done!
gyrfalcon wrote:Nice build, did you do the coloring yourself? Do you happen to have any higher resolution pictures?

Not the best with photos on the computer. But, I did take another photo with a better camera, so I hope you can see "shorty" better. Added a light, and also a cane tip to the end of the buffer tube. I did do the colouring my self, not really happy how it turned out but I can live with it. I'm sure that AR pistols are not for everybody, but have to say it is one fun gun!! I also put a RIA Compact into the photo that I messed around with a bit. Have added a FO front sight, new recoil spring and then had some custom grips done with the M.H.I. logo.

Here is another 45 I did a while ago. Other than putting on the sights I did the whole job myself. Will have to say that standing with my new 45's stripped down frame in the vice and me holding a hacksaw was a bit scary. All in all, I think it turned out very well!!!

I wonder if adding that cap to the end of an AR pistol could be construed as adding a stock

There is a thread on ar15.com that has a bunch of letters to the ATF reguarding questions about legality of different pistol mods. The cap on the end of the pistol buffer tube is AOK.
