There is a thread on ar15.com that has a bunch of letters to the ATF reguarding questions about legality of different pistol mods. The cap on the end of the pistol buffer tube is AOK.

Sure looks like that cap serves a single purpose. That's to fire from the shoulder. I'd get my own letter and keep it with the gun. And what does the BATFE say about the fore grip?
I love it when a plan comes together!

Have copys of all the letters pertaining to the end cap (which serves the purpose of protecting the buffer tube and lets you lean it into a corner safely) and the angeled forgrip (which the BATFE has ruled is not the same as a vertical forgrip) that I could find on AR15.com and keep them in the case with "Shorty". From what I have researched , I feel I am 100% legal. If I was not, sure would have not posted it on the web!!

As the OP of this thread, its purpose was simple to let people share what they’ve built and that is it. I don’t care how smart you think you are, if you’re considering condemning someone because you think their build may or may not be of some type of legal infraction…..CAN IT!!! Your comments aren’t welcome. If you feel you still need to prove your intelligence, send a PM. Don't turn this thread into another stupid ass legal debate. There's already too much of that crap on here.

My Remington 700 hunting & target rifle:

Image

This rifle started life as a Remington 700 ADL Varmint with a 26" barrel. It was originally a "budget hunter" project inspired by light urban tactical rifles but the more I got in to it the more I decided the investment in a better stock and trigger would put it in a different league but also kick up the cost significantly. The bipod will likely stay in the pack while I'm out in the field unless I'm posting somewhere stationary, without it the rifle is well balanced for hand or sling carry. I wanted something short but accurate that was consistent shot-to-shot including the first cold-barrel shot, thus the 18.5" bull barrel concept.

Barrel is the original cut 26" varmint contour Remington barrel & recrowned to 18.5" (1 in 12 twist)
X-Mark trigger replaced with a Timney 510, 1.5-4 pound adjustable
Stock is the Bell and Carlson M4 Medalist in Tan with black spiderweb (full length aluminum bedded)
Harris S-series "L" bipod
Weaver 1 pc base and medium all-steel rings (have some upgrades to install but these have worked fine so far)
Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40mm scope with BDC
Midway USA rifle cheek rest with storage bag and shell holder

I wasn't sure how it would do with heavier 175 grain bullets but after testing some hand-loaded M118 bullets over 38 grains of IMR 4046 and 165 grain Hornady SST's over Varget at 100 yards I'm happy with what it's able to do, a couple groups of 5-shots touching prone from a bipod (the equipment is capable of more than I am at this point, need to practice a lot now!). Going to work on testing loads with some faster burning powder once I get/borrow a chronograph and develop loads for a Montana hunting trip in the fall.

After shooting every polymer gun around, the woman decided she wanted a 1911 for carry. 8-)

Image

So this started as Springfield Armory Lightweight Champion GI Style pistol.

I picked it up off another member, it had a backyard job night sight install on it and the front sight was missing when I got it.

I added the following components:

Heinie Straight Eight Night Sight Slantpro's (Ahlmans machined the slide for me)
C&S Super Match 3.5lbs Trigger set
Ed Brown Videki National Match Trigger
Ed Brown Beavertail Grip Safety with Memory Groove
Ed Brown Tactical Extended Thumb Safety
Ed Brown Maxi-Well Mainspring Housing
Crimson Trace Laser Grips. Dual side activation

All work done by myself besides the machining of the slide. However, I now know I can definitely do that myself as well.

I'm contemplating de-horning it for her too. I'm not feeling THAT ambitious right now though.

i'd see it as a rubber bump pad, instead of a "stock". it looks like the rubber thing at the bottom of an old man's cane
