Frontiersman [And other stores I'm visiting]

Postby PileDriver on Sat Dec 31, 2011 10:03 am

So today I'm on a journey to see every gun store in the metro that I haven't been to, which is pretty much all of them except Bills and Ahlmans. First stop, Frontiersman. Probably should be my only stop. Great prices, and lots of different inventory. And of course, the Colt of my dreams for $20 LESS than I've seen online. As well as an EAA Witness, something I've never had the chance to fondle before, but I'm getting ahead of myself. I was immediately greated by a feller I later found out to be Marv. What a great guy, very polite. He wasn't pushy, but as I moved to the different sections, he was always there. He didn't ask the typical can I help you or what are you looking for blah blah questions like I had never seen a gun before. He just asked, "whatya think?" I liked that.

I unfortunately didn't walk away with anything, but that's mostly because I can't decide if I want the Colt or the EAA or the Maadi, or the 10/22 or the.... Plus, I must continue my journey.

Frontiersman 9.9/10 [.1 deducted for being a hike from me]

I live a few miles away from the Frontiersman. It's a great shop. I havn't had the money to buy anything for a while, but it is always nice to stop in.

In your journey, if you see a Kel-Tec KSG, please let me know :)

Well, on my way to Gun Stop, I noticed Ammo Craft. I stopped in and met the owner (I hate myself for not remembering his name). I was the only one there and we BSed for a bit, and he showed me what he had. Real nice guy. Not a big place, but to the point. There's a BNIB Remington 597 there for $140, I resisted (but I do need to pass by again...). He also has a crapload of Surefire lights at what I recall as being similar to online prices. I would certainly go there first if in the market for a shotty or .22 rifle.

Now, I just got out of Gun Stop... holy have a pistol inventory. Lots of long guns at fair prices, a variety of ARs and AKs, a real nice looking Norinco SKS for $270, and so on. They're really busy today, but a feller (said ask for JJ if I call in, so I'm assuming he's JJ) sought me out and asked if he could help. He showed me an RIA 1911 (I miss having a 1911 in general and my RIA I used to have never did me wrong) and a CZ75 BD. I've been seeking a B for a while, so he looked one up. Meanwhile we somehow got on the topic of vintage miliary aviation, and he gave me info on an aviation history club, way cool! The price if they ordered me was a bit high ($495 +tax), but not off the wall, and I am considering the BD. Or the RIA. ****. Another place that caused me to ask, "why the hell haven't I been here before?"

Now... I'm not sure what to do next. Metro Pawn is on the way home. I could hit one of the Bills stops. Al's would be a bit out of the way for me, but I'd like to go.

Ron is the Ammo Craft guy. Love his shop, it's the kind of place you can just hang out at, have a coffee and chill. He's got some good prices as well.

If it's not too late, make sure to stop in at J&S in Lakeville - it'll be good to "cleanse your pallet" of the pleasant gun shop experiences you've had so far! :|

J&S is close to me, so I've been there a few times. Not a fan.

Well, I went to Bills south next. I probably shouldn't have gone after these other places. Been there many times, and it's still just not my place. Very busy today, which is to be expected. The hallway outside of the Lodge was smokey with gunpowder too, kinda odd. Anyways, lotsa goodies to look at as usual.

Then, I hit up Metro Pawn. Kind of a cool place. High prices on some stuff, and really dang good prices on others. They sell new EAA Wintess' with .22LR conversion kits for the same price some people are selling the EAA's alone for. It seems like a store where you could end up going home with something you didn't remotely expect to see there, or knew you wanted.

Metro is literally a block away from a buddy who was about to leave for Cabela's Rogers, so I joined him. As expected on a holiday weekend Saturday, the gun counter was nuts. Only thing that I really noticed was a new CZ P07 for $410.

I did call Al's before going to Metro Pawn, asking how late they'ed be open tonight. The answer was, "I don't know. I know it's not a good answer, but it's the honest answer." Which is true, so I didn't risk the wasted voyage. Maybe I can do that one next Saturday.

So Frontiersman, Ammo Craft, Gun Stop, Bills, Metro Pawn today... Already been to J&S and Ahlmans. Al's is pending. What'd I miss?

Edit:
B- I didn't see any KSG's today.

Hmm, maybe stop at Cabin Fever in Victoria? I think that's the only other one I'm aware of that you haven't mentioned in the west metro.

I love Cabin Fever, family owned and always extremely friendly, they do not have a huge selection but I found their prices to always be fair and they are very fair with trade prices. And it's the only place I go for my bows, they even installed addons I did not buy from them, very good customer service there.
