Conceal vs Open

Postby 17Rebel76 on Tue Feb 14, 2012 11:57 pm

This isn't about legality, this is about tactics and strategy.

Should the government outlaw open carry? I said nothing of the sort. I only argue the benefits of concealed versus open and if that's too difficult then please feel free to hit the back button.

I've never really agreed with this statement. Criminals in my opinion and from what I have seen, don't care about the harsh consequences, but the chance of them getting caught. Now while a criminal may rob a gas station, it will get attention and the police will look into it. But what can they really do? Check security footage and any possible DNA that was left? Now when he walks in and sees someone open carrying, calculations change. If he murders the holder, now police are not only looking for armned robber, but also, murder. More evidence is left behind and it's a higher priority. Just how I see things though.

But how clearly do you think these criminals are thinking with any combination of adrenaline/drugs/desperation/mental illness? Carrying a gun openly may deter the more observant criminals, but if they don't notice you until after they've begun their crime they might just panic and do something stupid. Personally I'd like to attract as little attention as possible.

That's true, anyone hopped up on chems might just blast the first person they see. But yes I agree, I'd rather not stand out amongst, being discreet is key.

Totally depends on where I am carrying. If at the inlaws? Superdeep concealed. If up north country with the dog going around various areas that may hold wildlife that will threaten to maim her? Open. Again, that was all before that lake incident. I wonder if fish start shooting fisherman with those guns, if I'd get charged with some form of negligence?

If I had any in-laws I'm pretty sure I'd finally have reason to get a Desert Eagle and a drop-leg holster.
Don't worry, it's not about concealment - It's about distraction. They probably wouldn't even notice it, with the M14 slung over my shoulder.

Depends on the time and place most the time I conceal. I will admit sometimes I don't try very hard to conceal. I don't really care if someone catches a peek. Last week I went into cub with my g20 in a blackhawk cqc it conceals well under my huge carhart. Well it got hot as hell walking aroun for an hour so I said **** it and took it off surprisingly nobody said a thing including the maplewood officer hanging out at the front door. the only time I open carry is in the woods or to piss off the gf's mom. She's so anti gun rights it ridiculous so I even bought her daughter a gun and paid for her to get her carry permit :-) needless to say her mom isn't very happy with me. But the gf said she sat her down and had a long talk about guns, I guess she's coming around a little bit and wants to go to the range one day.

My inlaws are pretty decent, just nervous about handguns. They're more concerned my brother in laws uncivilised kids will make a grab for it. I lock our bedroom door with the gunsafe-er-bra drying rack thingy in it. Those pesky boats and their ability to tip over I tell ya!
