:?: Statutes we should refer to?

Seems like I recall reading something one time about autos being legal to own in Minnesota, but not transport or something weird like that.

Just get a nice legal fixed or speed assist folder and keep your wits about you. The most effective carry is between your ears. :)

So I have a confession.. I only read up on federal laws for auto knives, not state laws. My bad..

Still, aren't LEOs allowed to carry autos?

To be perfectly honest, I can't find an exception in MN law that allows for it.

I have looked for it on other occasions and have never found the exception for LEO's. This actually came up a couple weeks ago when I had 2 local LEO's in a class I was doing. One had commented that he could carry and auto and the other said that he could not legally. It came down to that they believed he could, but did not know of a statute or exception that allowed him. Basically came down to them allowing themselves to do so.

If someone know where this in Minnesota law that it refers to LEO's allowed to carry auto knives, please link.

A quick google search shows that it's a certificate for reserve police officers, is that correct? If so than no, I'm not.

I'm going to ask a few LEOs we have over here & some retired LEOs. And if they don't know the law on it they'll at least know their stance on it.

It's the licensing for all LEO's, not just reserve.

The closest you will find to it being exempt for military or police: (from Tman's link BTW)
(f) This subdivision does not apply to:
(1) active licensed peace officers;
(2) military personnel or students participating in military training, who are on-duty, performing official duties;

(3) persons authorized to carry a pistol under section 624.714 while in a motor vehicle or outside of a motor vehicle to directly place a firearm in, or retrieve it from, the trunk or rear area of the vehicle;
(4) persons who keep or store in a motor vehicle pistols in accordance with section 624.714 or 624.715 or other firearms in accordance with section 97B.045;
(5) firearm safety or marksmanship courses or activities conducted on school property;
(6) possession of dangerous weapons, BB guns, or replica firearms by a ceremonial color guard;
(7) a gun or knife show held on school property;
(8) possession of dangerous weapons, BB guns, or replica firearms with written permission of the principal or other person having general control and supervision of the school or the director of a child care center; or
(9) persons who are on unimproved property owned or leased by a child care center, school, or school district unless the person knows that a student is currently present on the land for a school-related activity.

And even then if you look at the comment it says:
This subdivision does not apply to:

and what is this "subdivision"?
Subd. 1d.Possession on school property; penalty.

Our infantry unit would have this pissing match every summer on the way to annual training. The 11boobo's would say they could, the officer's would say you can't.

Sorry, I just re read it off of the website, not your post. Like I said, I'll ask some of the LEOs here from MN and see what they have to say about it.

Please don't make the assumption that police officers know the law... they know the laws that want to know, and will assume the rest... Cobb's post is an excellent case in point.

BTW.. this post came from a cop, and actually cites the law (a rare combination, though not from Tman)

Yeah, I asked a guy in my company today if it was (he's a LEO at home), he asked me if I was high :roll:. He was also saying that a folding blade can't be more than 6 inches in the cities. It's a bit obserd if you ask me, if you can carry a handgun you'd think an auto knife that opens up as fast as a spring assisted knife would be legal.
