One thing I wouldn't suggest is the "If I can't get it at $300.00 I'm walking out the door" line. Sort of a passive-aggressive move, and I've found most shops will be more than happy to see you walk. Try "I think I'll do some more looking around, that is just more than I'm looking to spend right now. If it ever can be sold for 300.00, would you let me know?"

Also, don't be bashful about pointing out faults in the gun that may have been overlooked, but trying to degrade the gun with the obvious will probably make the seller think that YOU think he doesn't know his business. And maybe he doesn't, but either way you're not helping.

"This is a Gen 3 Glock and they have the Gen 4 Glock out now. This should be priced way less" - Not so good

Well.... I stopped in this morning and he said the guns were put away and he doesn't know where they are and it would take too long to find it. I asked the price anyways and it was retail. Asked about the price and he said " I have to ask the owner" the gun has been on the shelf since October . So now I have to wait for the owner to call me back.

Update: No call from the owner so I called at 4:00 to see if he was in yet. They close at 5. He said should be in by 5 but no call. I guess I should look elsewhere.

I have purchased no less than a dozen firearms from a pawn shop.

I have NEVER paid ANYWHERE NEAR sticker price for a firearm at a pawn shop.

If you play your cards right, they can be a great source for new toys.

YMMV.

What pawn shop? The ones I seem to stop in rarely have anything interesting --- you can only have so many 870s..

My haggling ability is so poor, I need to rustle up some cash and head into one of these and give it a shot. Metro is pretty close to my work.

I have mixed opinions of Metro Pawn & Gun. I think it really depends on who you're talking to on any given day. I talked to one fella who seemed pretty nice but then I talked to one of his coworkers and he wasn't very helpful. it doesn't help that all of their nice guns are behind the counter, so you inevitably have to ask someone for help to look at something or to check the price. this can be a little annoying because the few times i've been in their store the employees wound up talking with some chatty Cathy, and thus, never bothered to ask me for help. I have no interest in looking at their lower-priced junk guns. their sticker prices were also a mixed bag, but like I said, it's hard to tell what their nice guns are selling for because they're behind the counter and you have to have eagle vision to see the price tags.

Ive had good luck at Metro Pawn and Gun. like them alot, but Ive walked a number of times. its odd some stuff they are flexible some not so much. But as suggested in prior posts, ive been in and out, not on first name bais but reconized.

I am so going to use the blame the wife line, thats great.

Some of you must really like walking in and out of gun stores wasting time trying to negotiate prices. Most pawn shops are complete rip off artists, and negotiating will get you from 50% over blue book to 20%...wooptie fricken do.

Heck if I walked around BSing with people long enough I could probably get a bunch of free guns. Maybe that's what a bunch of the annoying folks at gunshows are trying to do as they talking ad nauseum about the pistol you know they're never going to buy.

Don't get me wrong, negotiating is fine...but time is money. Spending hours BSing to save a few bucks isn't worth it.

Agree, I looked at some electronic items once, heck, I could buy them new and cheaper at Walmart.

Looked at a nail gun for a few dollars more get a brand new one that didn't look like it had been dragged behind a truck.
