That's actually not at bad idea at all....... :hmm:

It will likely still get chewed up, but not as frequently, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than chain.

I think thats the best contender I've seen yet, looks like it'd be easy enough to make with a trip to HD (already have the AS500 targets....sigfan is a pretty good deal on those).
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

Yes, it looks great.

I already have a steel target though, and would like to use the one I have rather than buying a new one. I'm not sure I could modify mine to fit the description of what the website has to offer.

Its a steel fence post, two pieces of drilled steel bar, 4 links of chain, a couple of carriage bolts, a wrench and a hacksaw.

Pound the steel post into the ground at 45deg angle and hang target.
Looks like a good project for next Wednesday night in Shippy's basement!

Easy answer......Use conveyor belting to hang it. Bullets pass right through and the holes disappear. It's almost self healing. The only time it gets messed up is when you hit right on the edge of your steal and the frag directly goes into the belting. Even then it takes hundreds of hits right on the edge to completely cut through. We've also been using belting on frames to staple targets to at our range for years. You'll never go back to chain for hanging targets.

Certainly cheap enough to give it a shot.

I'll hit the HD this weekend for supplies. Maybe Shippy can get steel bar stock, HD's stuff will likely be cheap and thin?

Gr70 will take a rifle hit no problem. I use Gr70 in 1/4" and 3/8" and have yet to break a chain. It isn't cheap though.

Webbing works great and takes a lot of fly right through hits before it needs to be replaced. I also have some with a hook welded to the back so they are slightly tilted and hang them on sheppard hooks for your garden. Would also work with just a hole but would not be tilted to spray the lead downward.

+1 on the conveyer belting. Actually the belting we've been using is off a round baler. Tough stuff.

I also like these stands: http://www.arntzentargets.com/folding_stand.htm . If your target has just one hole it works great.
