I'm wondering who told you it wasn't legal in Minnesota

I don't know that I'd go by what an internet retailer thinks is legal or illegal. I placed a call to the Compliance Coordinator at Umarex ... I'll let you all know what he says.

I was flipping through a Cabela's ad this past weekend. They had their Bond Arms Centerfire Derringers in it. There was a footnote stating that this was not available in MN and ILL.

While I don't necessarily appreciate a Bond Arms derringer, a handgun retailing for over $450 shouldn't be classified as a Saturday night special. (I assume this is why it isn't for sale in MN.)

Spoke to Ann at Umarex Arms. The 416 pistols actually have an alloy metal frame and through their own destruction testing have melted them into liquidus state under 1000 degrees. So they do NOT meet Minnesota "Junk Gun" standards and can't be transferred in Minnesota by a FFL holder.

Huh...and I thought the term "polymer" meant plastic.

Thanks for checking into that Joe.

The Umarex spec sheet says it's metal - GrabAGun says it's polymer, but maybe they were just guessing

Thanks Joe, TTS and everyone - appreciate the info and effort .. i never really gave thought to melting points so I'd say I learned something today!

Ill keep it in my mind as I continue my search for a 22 pistol - the Ruger SR22 is at the top of my list right now - (and i can confidently say its polymer!)

Just my 2 cents worth, I got a Ruger Mrk III 2245, works great and eats any .22LR ammo.

have you looked into the S&W MP 15-22 pistol? its a polymer frame and is legal in MN. they have a very good reputation as well.

I have the 15/22 rifle and I love it. Strongly recommended!

My advice would be to avoid any product with the name Umarex on it. Everything I've seen from them is crap, particularly their Colt-branded .22 rifles. I can't imagine their HK-branded .22 rifles are much better.

The SR22, 22/45, Colt Rail Gun 1911 (22), SW MP 22 (pistol) and SW MP 15-22 are in my top 5. Ive been watching reviews and reading up - and when i narrow it down a little further ill get over to Bills and try em out..

...but, according to Bills rental page they only have the following..

S&W MP-22 22PR PISTOL
S&W MP-22 22LR (im assuming this is the 15-22)

Do they have more for rental than whats posted? - for testing the melting point, of course...
