Good thought! I think a couples shoot could be super cool. Our next door neighbors have been talking about the same thing, which could be fun. This is where a nice, low-hassle, outdoor range would be great to have a shoot, and then sit on a patio for a beer and giggles.

Wouldn't be a bad idea. Given the fact she was on paper (but that was about it, first time remember) I want to get back there, rent that .22 again and see if I get her hitting a target with consistency.

I'd like to my SO shoot a .22 pistol (or anything smaller than the .40 she shoots now) to see if that gets her close enough to wanting her own. I've thought about even getting a 9mm barrel conversion for my Glock 23 to see if she'd like that better.

Get a nice .22 a Ruger or something similar. Very cheap to shoot=more trigger time. Very little recoil.
I still like shooting mine. I used to get 500 rounds for less than $10.00(tose where the days).

I bought a Ruger Mark III 2245 Standard (not the more commonly seen Bull Nose barrel - Mine looks like a Luger P08 with the tapered barrel) for $269.00 from Bill's in Robbinsdale. You can get 5,250 rounds for $185.00 from luckygunner.com ( 10 boxes of 525 rounds each), which breaks down to about 3 cents a shot.

.22LR is the way to go for a nice plinker, cheap shooter. My only issue is the magazine disconnect in the Mark II but I'd like to get that fixed by replacing it with a Mark II hammer and bushing. This is a bit off-topic, but if anyone knows someone who can do the mod locally, let me know.

Ok...I have to do that. I felt "great" when I could get 1000 rds of .40 S&W for $335 shipped. $185 for 5,250 rounds? They may kick me out for screaming and laughing while shooting double-handed! My girl can just watch and occasionally release live doves so I feel like I"m in a John Woo movie.

I want one, money doesn't allow it right now. I would like to get a deer rifle first and the start down the list of wants after that.

Re: 22

I was talking with my GF about the 22 and she started looking around. Of course she fell in love with the "look" of the P22, SR-22, and the *GASP* Mosquito. Aside from the latter, which I've heard nothing but bad things about, do you guys have any thoughts on the P22 or the SR-22? It seems as though the Ruger may be a bit more reliable. I don't like the take-down setup for the P22 at all--it looks like it will come loose--and I've read a bit about reliability issues unless you feed it the most expensive 22 ammo available. Thoughts/experience?

When it comes time to get a 22 handgun I'm going to go with a Ruger Mk series. Like I said that's a ways off, I may get the 22 conversion for my 226 in the mean time. The others you listed I'm indifferent about, due to the fact I have no experiences with them.

My girl and I went to Bill's South tonight after work and I used one of my precious membership rentals to rent a Walther P22, at her request. From the second round she had a permanent ear to ear grin and spit through 100 rounds faster--and more accurately--than I'd have guessed going in. We went up to The Lodge for our typical "after action report" and she decided then and there that she wants to purchase one. Aw, her first gun. :ugeek:

Unfortunately, both Bill's locations list a used P22 on their sites, but don't have it in stock. They wanted $350+ for a new one, but I can't see spending over $300 for that particular firearm. So...the hunt begins. I've never seen her this excited about shooting before, which is awesome. I'll also admit that I fired a few magazines on the 22 before switching to my Glock 23 and Beretta 96. I found that I was more accurate, more quickly having started with the 22. That was a fun surprise.

If anyone has a P22 that they want to sell at a fair price, let me know.
