goaliemn and george are correct. The only information they get from us FFLs over the internet/phone is the type of firearm (handgun, long gun). No serial numbers, makes, models, etc. are given during the NICS check. It is recorded on the 4473 form for tracing.

Jesus H Christ, I didn't realize we were going to debate absolute constitutional and ATF law here.

Correct, there is no FBI, State, or Federal database REGISTERING firearms. The 4473 is "loosely" a registration (thus my comments, just trying to answer the OPs question simply. please, lets be adults here and not get into a debate of what "registration" or "loosely" means) as the records are kept for access by the ATF at any time.

In a purchase from an FFL, it is illegal for anyone but the actual owner of the firearm to receive the firearm. My IOI specifically told me this includes gifts. Although she admitted if the buyer kept his mouth shut about it being a gift, there is no way for the FFL to know its not for personal use. But she told me specifically that the only person legally allowed to take possession of the firearm is the owner. She said if the gun was to be a gift, the purchaser should bring the recipient with for pickup and transfer.

No I just bought one and I didn't wanna have to wait tell my permit goes threw to bring it home I new that there are one time purchases and that's what I planned on doing and they don't do them at the store I'm purchasing from so now I have to wait up to 7 days to bring it home.

I'm a security officer and I'm taking my armed test one my supervisors said he would pick it up for me so I was just asking to see if that's possible or not. I'm new to the firearm laws so I was also wondering if he did if it would be registered in his name because I need it to be under mine

But thanks for the replys looks like I'll be waiting a week they need to make an online version its very inconvenient this way

IANAL but some of the actions you are describing could be interpreted as highly illegal. I strongly recommend that you do not have someone pick up a gun for you, ask someone to pick up a gun for you, accept a gun from someone else, allow someone else to fill out a 4473 for a gun you intend to take posession of, give money to someone else to purchase a gun or take posession of a gun from an FFL that you personally have not filled out a 4473 for.

I was asking to see if you could do it as in if its legal I never said I am having some one pick it up I simply was trying to find out if you could! I just didn't wanna wait the whole week to get it home my permit is coming I'm just very impatient and I planned on doing a one time purchase which doesn't require you to have a permit to purchase but the store I went to doesn't do the one time purchase so I paid for the gun but I have to wait for my permit to come in to bring it home.

does anyone know how long hennipen county takes to get the permit to purchase done if you submit it on Monday when could you go in an get it I really hope there quick

They are supposed to, by law, issue them within 7 days for a PTP, 30 days for a PTC. From what I have read, some cities and counties flip that law the bird and do it when they dam well please. Recently read about a guy in Burnsville that was like 31 days. Gotta love the cops that think the law applies to everyone but them.

And kudos to you for asking and wanting to do it the right way. Some people just don't give a F, and those are the guys that cause the problems for FFLs, and a lot of times for cops too.

If I planned on getting a weapon illegally I wouldn't go to a store and I deff wouldn't ask if it was okay on a gun blog haha I asked to see if it was okay or not I'm a security officer and its gonna be my service weapon I'm just very anxious its my first gun and I waited the whole week to get it and I pay for it but can't bring it home and when they said they don't do the one time purchase I, went straight to the police station and they closed a, half hour earlier and there close on Sunday so I can't even get my app submitted tell Monday! they need to have a online permit it would be instant you wouldn't have to run to the police station 2 or 3 times and wait a week or more just to purchase a hand gun

Totally understand dude. I have a whole safe full of guns, and am an FFL so I have guns coming and going all the time, but when I order one for myself I'm still like a kid at Christmas....beside myself until it gets here. :D

I was always under the impression you could turn in a PTP app 24/7? At least that was on the sheet attached to my app.

Given the fact I had to turn it into the sheriff, I just gave mine to the dispatcher and got it a few days.
