I stopped at a small pawn shop yesterday that sells guns and asked them about their handguns they had in stock. The sales guy told me about "a great deal on a S&W SW40VE, it's a .40 caliber gun that's just like a Glock, just lower priced." I think they had it marked around $325-350.

i've only been to Cabela's once so I don't really have an opinion on their customer service.

Gander Mtn on the other hand, truly sucks. I've never had anyone ask me if I needed help at their Eden Prairie location but on top of that they've completely remodeled the gun floor so that everything is behind the counter. Of course, there was no one at the used gun counter so I basically needed a pair of binoculars to figure out what make/model rifles they had on the shelf.

You should have walked over to the optics section and grabbed a pair of binoculars and started looking at the used guns from the counter. Maybe then they would have got the hint. :D

I do highly recommend The Frontiersman in Minneapolis off 394.
They are not only knowlegeable and very helpful, they don't treat you like you're an idiot if you don't quite get what they are saying.
Also, they will not shaft you if you want to trade in a gun on a new one.
They know the value and will negotiate with you.
Gander guys don't know the value and won't negotiate.

I visited the Gander store after they had just re-opened the firearms section in Eden Prairie. I had at least 12 different people ask me if I needed help with anything, or if I wanted to look at anything. Stopped back a few weeks later and could have sworn I was in a complete different store. It was like a Twilight Zone episode.

I haven't been in yet since the gun section opened. Is it worth stopping ?

Yes if you just want to waste time looking at stuff. My wallet didn't get any exercise which is rare when I'm in a store with any sort of firearms.

so what was the reasoning behind the remodeling? I was pretty irked when I saw I couldn't handle their guns anymore. it'd be pretty difficult to steal a gun from them since their handguns are encased in glass and their long guns all had cable locks on them, in addition to video surveillance. the new remodel is a good example of what you shouldn't do if you want to get customers to buy guns

I hope they build a new Gander in Maple Grove. They closed our old one because they couldnt pay the rent in the strip mall. The guy there told me they were planning on building a stand alone "cabelas style" store. Havent seen anything since.

As much as i hate gander sometimes, they tend to have good deals on used firearms. I bought a Marlin 795 there in like new condition for 85 dollars. Ammo is always jacked up compared to other places, and everything else like camping and fishing gear is always jacked up in price.

I stop by Gouger Mountain all the time as it is on my way home from work..(eden Prairie)...I will say that I get asked all the time if I would like to look at something.,..Sometimes more than I would like to here...I have yet to ever go there and not have been asked at least 3-4 times depending on how long I am drooling on the gun cases...Can't afford the prices there but they do have an awesome display of pistols!!!! NOW IF THEY WOULD PULL THERE HEAD OUT OF THEIR #$(@$ AND be competitive with their gun prices I would truly believe they would be one of the best stores to buy from...

THey have a great selection of pistols at EP store but holy crap Batman the prices are out of this world...It would be very hard to work there and sell guns knowing that your prices are totally out of whack!!!! But they sell alot of guns there just becasue they are Gander Mountain!!! I am just not one of the buyers...
