I will have about $3k to play with. While the Limcats are nice I am sure they are close to $5k for a new open gun and I dont ever see myself shooting open. I have been having a ton of fun shooting my XD Tactical this season and think I would get the most use from a quality .40 2011.

I have my eye on a couple of used ones (One from Milenium and a Predator Tactical) both are good deal with a handful of magazines and the few features I know I want in a limited gun. Gotta see how these deals shake out.

Never fear. Johnny Lim does wicked limited guns as well. Look them up. I think it might be in your price range.
I just put a pic of the open guns up because they were the coolest works of his I could find.

if i had a theoretical budget of $3k, and were looking for a 1911 (aren't we ALWAYS looking for a new 1911) i'd contact Nighthawk Customs. get one new for that price. a GRP Recon would be the one i'd personally go for. now keep in mind that this is a semi-SEMI-production gun. it's not a true custom shop type firearm. however, if you order it, you can get them to do damn near anything you want to it. the Recon models come with Surefire X300 weaponlights (i believe) and you can get the crimson trace grips with it. a threaded bbl with some tall Heinie Nighties to clear the suppressor that we can't have (yet...*crossed fingers*) and you've got the most tacticool 1911 you can get!

i really REALLY like the nighthawk models. you might even be able to get it in 38Super, which i think would be a whole new level of cool-factor.

mind you, i know NOTHING about competition guns. i don't know what makes Major or Limited or Open or whatever. i don't really care. i know that the gun i'm dreaming up in my noggin is beyond awesome

For an engagement gift, I would be looking at something timeless like a 1911 by Wilson, Brown or Baer. It seems like you really want that Limited gun and I can't blame you. Take a look at Matt Cheely's stuff.

Stopped in to Bills Robinsdale today and got to handle/drool on a Ed Brown Molon Labe 1911... I am really resisting the urge to go back and put a deposit on it. I like the classic styling of the gun and the fit, finish, and trigger were very sweet!

Its not a limited gun but certainly a gun that will last a lifetime and leave something to pass down some day. I am going to sleep on it and maybe stop back in tomorrow to oogle it a bit more.

I myself want something to pass down to my son but have always thought about a Rolex and never thought about a gun. This is just my opinion but I think you should stay classic custom guns like noted above. You want the competition gun but will your children want it as a keep sake. How would you feel if you gave them your comp gun and they sold it to get a custom classic? I've been to Bill's many times and I stare into that case with every visit.........

Have Grundhauser gunworks build you a Hi-cap .40 S&W. They are works of art that shoot as good as they look. 2nd choice would be an SVI.

Alright fellas! My decision has been made. Instead of one gun I am going to end up with two!

I picked up the X5 from the classifieds (I have a small collection of SIg's already) and was in contact today with JP about building a new rifle! So instead of one top of the line custom gun I am getting two top of the line production guns!

pics to follow

Thanks for the input Brian! Let me know when you are ready to part with one of those 930 JM's you have! I am looking to pick up a JM edition as my new shottie and turn my current 930 into a backup gun.
