"(I have an unfired Browning A-Bolt .270 win circa 1990)." As posted by Mr. Spackler on the first page of this thread. Now, how a rifle makes it to the age of 22 and never get fired, thats new to me? :? This is a funny thread tho! :rotf:

Let me play devil's advocate for a moment.
It's a lot more common than one might think for a troll to sign up with "IMATroll123," get banned sign up immediately after with "IMTROLL69," wait 6 months and sign up once more as "tr_oll."
Trolls do it because it's aggravating, and it's aggravating to have tr_oll say "I'm not the same person! Look, there's an underscore in there! Check the IP address!" If Mr. Carl_Spackler had signed up before carlspackler, people would be more inclined to believe they are different people.

So Mr. Spackler, if that is your name, you have two options: Put up (pics) or shut up.

For those unfamiliar Carl Spackler was Bill murry's character in Caddy Shack so I'm guessing it isn't his real name, Troll or not.

.. well said... I'm thinking this is a legitimate case of two people picking a similar username based on a common pop-culture reference instead of some clandestine troll identify swap... but I tend to fall into the "benefit of the doubt" category.

If the guy who started this thread is looking to do a swap he should probably throw a post up in the Firearms FS forum with some photos where he'll at least have the opportunity to focus on the business at hand and have any off topic/troll responses nuked per the FS forum rules. If he was just fishing for info on what to expect on a gun shop trade I think the question was at least answered somewhere in this thread before the pile-up got underway. :)

this one is amusing at the very least.
Mr Spackler, if that IS your real name... why not just cancel your account and get a new one. may i suggest a login for you? BillMurryFromCaddyshackFan

i'm actually being quite serious. if you're not the same Carl Spackler (because an underscore isn't a huge difference) what difference does it make? i'm a member on a few different forums, and i've actually politely asked multiple people to change their name. on the Quad Cam Bastards, i go by my first name: Erik. there's a couple other Eriks or Erics on there, and i've asked them to "modify" their names, so as to not confuse others. hell, one of them also had a VERY similar chopper to mine, and also had an avatar photo of his black lab (like i do) so it confused even ME!

to quote Mr Adam Sandler from the classic film "Billy Madison"... "Go on with the chlorophyl"
saying that guns kill people is like saying that spoons made Rosie O'Donnell fat.

They're both the same person. No doubt about it. Post starts out with a seemingly inncocent question, although the "my wife won't let me keep a gun in the house" thread was ripe enough with the first post to make it smell like a Mexican fish market. Eventually the internal consistency of the thread slips, and he goes from Mr. Noob to somebody who has been to every gun shop in the TC metro, or every pawn shop, or whatever. You can bet your life you'll never see pictures of a 22 year old Browning A-bolt. He'll get made by people like me and Strad, and we post our "best of Carl" links from previous visits here. There will be silence for a few months, and then he'll come back with another seemingly innocent question for the newbies on the board.

Along with considering the astute observations made by S Sam and others, think what the 'reasonable man' might do in this situation were he truly interested in selling a firearm: I suspect most newcomers spend some time lurking before posting. At which time one would see the want ads.
It takes a truly naive and sheltered person not to realize the financial benefits of selling anything like a gun, or motor vehicle to another person at near retail prices, vs. dealing with a retailer and getting at best, a wholesale price.
As to the ' coincidence' of the forum names: Bee Ess. Again, the reasonable man, genuinely interested in participating in the board, discovering his faux paux would openly give themselves a face palm, have a good laugh, and contact a mod to change his name. Not go on the offensive and call out anyone and everyone( much the same as the 'other' carlspackler did.)

Well, the thread has gone silent, no pictures of a new 22 year old Browning A-bolt here or in the WTS ads, and Carl probably won't be back until after the leaves turn.

BTW: while carlspackler was more offensive and a bigger troll, Carl_Spackler wasn't much different once he got "made" by those of us who remembered him and called him on it, so the change in spelling is a NOT an innocent mistake by a different person.
