So does anyone have a link to this DNR statute? If DNR, then I understand it can be made illegal to hunt with, but the DNR cannot restrict ownership of an item that I know of.

It's not a DNR/ hunting statute, rather the DNR's influence on the legislature.
I suppose they get some uniformed CO in front of the lawmakers and say something Ike: "We're doing it for Bambi".

This.
The DNR lobbied heavily for it. They're now kept illegal by ill-informed LE administrators and organizations like the MNCOP and MPPOA, despite most educated gun ownership supporting LE officers being against the ban. The statute for suppressors is 609.66 Subd 1a.

Subd. 1a.Felony crimes; silencers prohibited; reckless discharge.

(a) Except as otherwise provided in subdivision 1h, whoever does any of the following is guilty of a felony and may be sentenced as provided in paragraph (b):

(1) sells or has in possession any device designed to silence or muffle the discharge of a firearm;

So it is Minnesota state law, was voted on by the political bodies and signed into law and not some DNR created regulation.

Yes. State law. But Your response raises a question: Aren't DNR hunting/ fishing/ etc regs. codified in state law as well. I don't believe any agency, by itself can create law. Or am I wrong?

Don't know exactly. But years ago there was a provision attached to a fiance bill for permit holders to carry while archery hunting deer. The bill got vetoed by Pawlenty. Then last year it came out in a the DNR regs that a permit can carry while archery hunting deer. So law was made involving a different method, but again this dealt with game laws and the taking of an animal with a license.

So again, I understand the suppressors being banned for hunting, the DNR are writing the regulations pertaining to the taking of game. But back to the DNR writing regulations that are codified into law that would put restrictions on those that are not hunting, don't know. If so, a back door way that the anti's could maybe work effectively, which is something to think about. Again, I do not know, never researched this portion of how Minnesota laws or statutes are created

How is a supressor mounted on a gun? Do you need to have the barrel threaded? How about a pistol?

Threaded is typical but there are models designed to clamp over the flash suppressor of an AR and of course there are custom build integrly suppressed guns as well.

Here's an article about suppressors that just came out this week. It contains a lot of good information about them as well as some good links.

Wow.I really started something.I'll have to ask my FFL as he manufactures suppressors.He is the one who told about the pol. that made this a big issue and got everyone on board to ban them here in Mn.I think it was that guy that died in a plane crash.I'll be getting out to shoot one of these days and I'll ask Roger who the guy was.You're are correct.It was not one man,but it was one man that convinced all the sheeple of pol's to jump on board.

Are you kidding me? Are you talking about Wellstone? He was alot of things but I really doubt he was the driving force behind a suppressor ban.
