I would consider BPR my home range living 10 minutes away. Hell in the winter I stop in there at least once a week. Fire is what closed down the range at Dakota Fitness. I hope that's not the case here.

At this point I'd be more concerned about Roger and Sue's livelihood than about a little personal inconvenience.

Shame.

Hope it's not too bad.

I stopped in today on my way to work. I don't even know what to say.
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

At Dakotah Sport & Fitness, the fire was just a convenient excuse to close it down. There were council members who had been wanting to close it down because of the 'message' it was giving the public and they jumped on the opportunity to close it. At least that's the story I got from a well placed source.

Burnville Pistol Range - On Fire?

Fire also closed the Maplewood/Hennepin county police range. I heard through the grapevine that toxic smoke, along with lead from the backstop contaminated the entire structure. A tracer round was the unofficial culprit.

Yikes - I hope for everybody's sake (especially Roger and Sue's) they get back up and running swiftly.

Sorry to hear the news but glad there were no injuries <or worse> involved. Hopefully the repairs and reopening are taken care of in short order so they can get back to business as usual!

While it was smokey in the area, I didn't notice any soot fallout. I live just a couple blocks away and the smell of the smoke was no very strong at all.

Burnville Pistol Range - On Fire?

If the backstop were on fire it would be a class Bravo, with dense heavy black smoke. From the photos posted earlier in the thread the smoke appears to be dark gray, indicating a class Alpha fire. It doesn't appear the backstop was burning, at least at the time the photo was taken.

I did a quick google search earlier, and found another local outdoor forum with a post from an employee of a nearby business. There were reports of flames from the venting stack, which could mean an air handling equipment fire. Although there is a report posted on the Star Trib that it was in fact backstop material burning.
That's a pretty stout structure, and not too vulnerable to water damage, but the smoke damage inside could be severe if it was burning rubber.
Like everyone, I wish Roger and Sue the best for a quick recovery.

Burnville Pistol Range - On Fire?

Postby adoptedson on Tue Jul 31, 2012 11:28 pm

Hate to hear this. I've been there once and had a nice experience. I really hope they can be back providing their services soon. Glad to hear there wasn't any injuries.

Not a good week with this fire and DKMags getting robbed.
