Got my PTC

Well, I passed and got my PTC class and qualifications completed over the weekend. I just need to get the application and money into the sheriff, which I'll do this week, then wait 30 days to get the actual card (which won't be a problem at all).....

So, any advice for a brand-new, first-time PTC-holder?

Advice?
Don't worry about printing, people aren't as observant as you think.
Use a good holster that holds the firearm securely.

In an earlier post you mentioned taking DonL's permit class.
I'd recommend taking his 'holster' class, or something similar.

I'd recommend getting a pistol that will fit in your pocket, sooner or later you're going to get one anyways. Big guns just aren't always practice.

My advice - don't worry so much about printing. Take a good defensive handgun class. Don has his I, II, and III course - I've taken all of them - they are highly recommended.

Others offer similar courses but I have no personal experience, so I can't speak to those. I know I learned a ton in Don's courses - and have repeated them when they have been offered.

+1 on not worrying about printing. Also, get a good belt. Any holster is only as good as the belt you put it on. A great holster on a crap belt won't keep anything in place.

I was kind of joking...it means something like...you got it wrong and your instructor was an idiot....wasn't implying that at all.

Joel Rosenberg was my instructor (twice) and he was 'an original' His book is very good "Everything you need to know about (legally) carrying a handgun in Minnestoa."

He was one of the handful of people at the center of the passage of the MCPPA of 2003.

He passed away about 2 years ago while in the middle of being 'A Test Case' .....something he strongly advised against.

Second Amendment advocate

Outside of science fiction, Rosenberg was best known as a handgun instructor, Second Amendment advocate, and author of a manual for people wanting to get a handgun carry permit in Minnesota, Everything You Need to Know About (Legally) Carrying a Handgun in Minnesota, and a similar book for Missouri, Everything You Need to Know About (Legally) Carrying a Handgun in Missouri. His wife recounted that Rosenberg's experience with gun rights was inadvertent. In an interview following his death, she said a neo-Nazi threatened Rosenberg and his family via emails -- specifically enough to describe his home -- and Rosenberg decided to seek a permit to carry to protect himself. :Rosenberg once suspected that the threats might have something to do with his Metzada novels--"I do write about Jews in space with big guns." But to this day, he doesn't know anything about his stalker, except that he or she is violently anti-Semitic, and unlikely to win any spelling bees.[1] The legal back and forth between Rosenberg and the Minneapolis police department prompted him to push for a change in the law, from a "may issue" statute to a "shall issue" statute.

While his books of the Guardians of the Flame series have detailed descriptions of firearm technology, he began seriously dealing with self-defense issues after he thwarted a break-in into his house with a .22 lr pistol he kept in his home.[1]

The biggest factor in a quality carry rig is the belt. It matters much, much more than what holster or what gun. I can take a cheap crappy uncle Mike's or Fobus holster, put it on a decent gun belt and be ok. I can not take a $200 custom made fancy leather holster, put it on a $10 wal mart "work" belt and get it to work. Ask around and you'll find a number of good options in different price ranges for good belts.

very true. however, a good belt doesn't HAVE to be an expensive one. i've got a Galco belt and it carries my Tagua holster. the two of 'em combined was less than $100!
