like everyone says, good belt and holster makes it more enjoyable to carry. this is my holster
http://www.comp-tac.com/product_info.ph ... cts_id=102
and this is my belt
http://www.comp-tac.com/product_info.php?products_id=43

i carried for a couple years before finally getting quality carrying equipment. definately worth getting before you start carrying. oh and dont worry about printing. I remember the first day i carried standing in a chipotle line waiting to order, i just kept on tugging on my shirt thinking that everyone in there knew i was carrying. nobody really notices other than the people that are carrying also

here is a thread talking about comp-tac the company. they make good products and is a family run business

Got my PTC

Postby xd ED on Tue Aug 28, 2012 5:14 pm

I have a couple of Wilderness Instructor belts. Of the 3 grades of stiffness, I have the middle(5 stitch), and heavy(kydex? lined). Good for casual/ outdoor clothing wear. Very functional; not nearly as pricey as custom belts. ($45-55).

very true. however, a good belt doesn't HAVE to be an expensive one. i've got a Galco belt and it carries my Tagua holster. the two of 'em combined was less than $100!

No where did I say a good belt had to be expensive. I've been carrying on a Looper Leather kydex reinforced belt available at http://www.unholstered.com/blade-tech-l ... eries.html for $45 for longer than this board has been around with no problems. A good discussion of belts from five years ago is available at viewtopic.php?f=26&t=170&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

I got mine from here:
http://www.bullhidebelts.com/Gun-Belts_ep_111-1.html

And I ponied up for the horsehide belt (see what I did there). The thing is a beast. I was really worried about how it was going to break in, but it has done so nicely. My only complaint is that the dye is slightly rubbing off on my khakis/jeans. It really isn't a huge deal, because I will never wear the pants without this belt, as it is my eveeryday belt now, and it covers up the dye problem.

+1 on a good belt. I used to strongly advocate the Galco King Tuk holsters, but found they have cheapened their product a bit as of late. They still work, but they did away with the edge stitching

Thye claim it was irritating peoples skin :?

Lots of good advice here.

Someone else recommended Galco King Tuk as well.

There is a lot of great info in this thread!

Just to add to the list: Some of recommended the Galco King Tuk, which is a great holster; however, somewhat declining quality recently (hopefully temporary, because they are great). For a similar style and very high quality, I recommend the Crossbreed Supertuck, now called the Supertuck Deluxe -- http://crossbreedholsters.com/SuperTuck ... roductName

These are great holsters and come in either cowhide or horsehide (recommend the $10 upgrade to the latter) and they offer a variety of clip types. This is an in the waistband (IWB) type that is adjustable for height and cant. I've just ordered a Minituck for a very small-framed pistol that I expect to be awesome as well, but will reserve further comment on.

As for belts, I have a Crossbreed belt that I like, but my favoirte belt--albeit expensive--is from http://thebeltman.net. They make a large variety of belts in various styles and options. These are a little more expensive than some, but are truly great products made with high quality and from a company that exemplifies excellent customer service.

I have a Wilderness Systems five stitch. Its a great belt for not a lot of money. Suits all of my needs for EDC, if you order one make sure to follow the measuring directions otherwise the belt will not work well. I am a small guy and dont have a lot of belt real estate getting a belt in the proper size is paramount with the five stitch.

I'm thinking Corssbreed Super Tuck for the IWB holster for the XDm .45ACP 4.5" barrel (overall 7" length)... Is that a good one to get? Will it hold the gun ok? Comfortable? Any local places to buy?

Unfortunately, these are questions that only you will eventually be able to answer. Everyone is different, so every holster fits people differently. Most folks I know end up with a drawer full of holsters before setling on the one they carry.

That said, I wear a Remora IWB for my Kahr and a Side Guard Double Snap for my 1911.

Great choice for durability, comfort, and--of course--concealability. It will hold the firearm, but retention out of the box is somewhat loose, but adjustable. Better stil, if you want tight retention, be sure to put that in your notes when you order it and they will oblige. I'm not aware of any local places because they are a small shop that hand makes the product.

Good advice. Thanks. I'll be sure to tell them that.

When I got my permit three years ago I was all about IWB, now it's all about comfort and I don't care who sees whatever I may be carrying, which lately is my SP101 an a super comfy OWB leather holster

Forgot the details of my early days... Carried an XD45c in a High Noon Holsters Bare Asset, a simple, thin, and convenient holster. Loved it. Still do. It was very easy to unclip and stash in a glove box. The single clip was was easy to position but it did tend to move around a bit. I tried a Galco Kink Tuk, it felt bulky in comparison, but held my XD in place better. Not worth it IMHO. Ended up selling the King Tuk. Now if I carry IWB, it's my PF9 in a Remora. Oh, and talk to Srigs about a nice OWB, he makes purdy leather goods
