When you shop at Gander you are paying for huge overhead costs. And yes, gander still sucks.

I usually pay about $100 per mil-surp ammo can when I buy them but they come filled with M2 ball :D

:iagree: This is how I shop at Gander. But, I sometimes look at their new products, find something that fills a need, take a picture of it with my phone, when i get home I can make better choices.

They are no different than any other retailer, they buy them at auction by the pallet (or truck load). Its just part of the deal, some of them are dented, some are scratched, regardless they are all milsurp ammo cans.

Well, unless you want to lump GM in with the Craptastic Jumble Sale that is a Sportsman's Guide Store, I would expect any retail store to have some quality standards, and sell products that are reasonably uniform and that actually WORK. It's not like GM doesn't go putting on airs with their high priced Whoop-De-Doo Three Forks Ranch designer clothing, leather, (where you can blow more on a leather travel bag than a Glock 19 costs...) and high priced gun display. Oh, and maybe you ought to get your eyes checked, because that can isn't just "dented", it's been beat in until the top doesn't even close anymore. Didn't see that either, huh?? The point here is that you have a big box retail store with a display where one of the items is outright junk. That's like going to Target, and seeing a display of Big Wheels trikes where one of them has been run over with a Mack truck and is totally useless. WTF kind of statement does that make?? That's the point I'm making. So I'm not buying your "Oh boo hoo do you want them to sort each pallet by hand" rant, as it would only take a sales associate with the IQ of a cabbage to grab that one and throw it in the dumpster. But NOOOOOO!!! Not only does it make it to the sales floor, but it goes on the TOP of the display where it's most prominent!! This is probably the biggest FAIL I have ever seen in retail sales, bar none. Even The Ax Man on University Ave. doesn't sell stuff that's been destroyed. Odd, bizarre, outdated, weird, and just plain funky, yes, but even they don't expect you to buy something that's just plain destroyed.

Oh, and everything Strad said, too....

On ammo cans- Please share (PMs are fine) the $7 source. Back in PA, I never paid n more than $5 per .50 can or 3.50 per .30 can. Prices here are crazy. I bought 6 yesterday up north for $11/can, tax included at a small general store north of Askov. Pricey in my book, but I need some and they are in mint condition.

That is what I do, have gotten some pretty good deals that way.

As for the general store, did you stop at the one in Kerrick? If so, did you try their deli for a sandwich? They have some of the best bread I've ever had other than Cassidy's in Hinkley. Fresh made and the veggies were home grown the last time I stopped there. It is a place I stop whenever I am in the area. Ringers in Askov is a decent place for a bite too. The Chicken Ranch wrap is good and I am partial to their Super Club sandwich. Staff is pretty good with Brittany being one of the best hostesses I've met in a long, long time. Check them out if you get the chance.
We must have just missed each other as I came home from up there yesterday. Grouse hunting was tough due to the wind and the bears were not hitting the baits at all. Too many acorn/hazelnuts out right now. I lucked into some ducks on Saturday and filled out a limit of mallards and gadwalls. Other than that, it would have been a bust for hunting.

I've always looked at GM like I do ticket master, you pay more for the "convience". Not my favorite place, but they always had something I needed when I needed or wanted it.

So, if I'm standing on the surface of the moon, with an undamaged ammo can in one hand and Gander's "speed dented" one in the other, and I drop both from the same height at the same time, which one will hit the surface first???

And yes, the current Gander sucks. Royally.

There is a certain gun show vendor who, I'm sure, would sell these dented cans at a premium, and claim it was "battle damage," while throwing in some stories about how they were pried out of the hands of a Nazi officer (even though they are USGI), and used to have blood on them, but he sold those ones first for $500 each. Then he'd go on about how they are a good investment, and they appreciate at a rate of 20% per year...oh, and do you want me to ring up a "concealed carry badge" while we're at it?

Yea gander sucks. The last time i went there was about two weeks ago. Was going to oakdale gun club. My buddy bought a box of winchester white box 44 mag. $52.99. At walmart you pay $39.99. I laughed at him and shot my reloads and then took his brass. :D I pretty much had made up my mind years ago when they wouldn't sell me a ram rod cushion because I was not 21. I was pretty confused considering they let me buy powder and bullets. I used to work in an archery shop, about 25% of the time in september - october we would tune bows bought from gander. I have pretty good luck with Joe's sporting goods. They back their products.

The gravitational force is constant and there is no atmosphere to resist the motion so. They both hit at the same time!
