Secondly, with OWB the full weight of the gun is held by the holster, which is held by the belt, so you need a pretty secure belt that won'r ride down if you walk a few blocks (or miles) with the gun on. If your waistline is substantially bigger than your hips (which mine is...

With IWB, the situation is completely different. With the gun inside the waistband, you have the friction between the gun and the owner, and the gun and the pants, and the friction between the pants and the owner to all hold the gun in place. So with a sung pair of pants (which is counter-intuitive as far as concealment is concerned) the gun and holster are held firmly against your body, and as an added extra bonus, the pressure mooshes the grip into any love handles you have. This effectively submerges about half the width of the grip in your body outline, and makes the gun damn near invisible. I carry a full size 1911 which is a full 48 ounces loaded with 50GI ammo, and it stays in place nicely and I have passed very close scrutiny at posted events a number of times. Even my wife can't tell when I am carrying if she's looking at me to see if I have a gun on me.
As an aside, if I carried that gun OWB it still wouldn't be noticed, but that would only be because the sight of a big, old, homely geezer like me standing in broad daylight with his pants down around his ankles would horrify people to the extent that the presence of a gun would be a very minor detail....
