For me it is about having a real nice example of my favorites . So I've gotten to the point where I don't have alot of stuff but the ones I have have significance to me. My collection so far, an italian SxS and O/U, a Colt goldcup 45, a model 41, a ruger Mark I, k-38, model 88 Winchester, Remington 740, Anchutz 22, Kreiger barrelled AR, Brazo open gun, and a few others totalling about 20.

IMO collecting varitey is the fun part; my goal is to have a collection made up of:
Shotguns - 12, 20 or 16, and 28 or 410 gauge, made up within a mix of SxS, O/U, pump and auto
Pistols - 45 1911, revolver, 22 auto, 9mm auto, .40 auto
Rifle - .30 cal, sub .30, .223 and .22, made up within a mix of auto, bolt, lever and pump

All are reasonably practical for use and that is important to me to.

Why don't we know you? We are practically neighbors. Just across the river.

Well bring your cosmo soaked stuff over here and let's meet! I gotta spot where we can sit down and talk about our addictions.... It's 100 yards long and requires earmuffs.

Scratch, that would be great. Aren't you the guy who built that IDPA type range on your property too?

Yep, heading down there in a few minutes.

My addictions are Remington Model 8 and 81 semi-auto rifles and Savage Model 1899 and 99 lever guns, especially the pre-1920 models of the 99. Savage 1920 bolt guns are also sought.
Savage semi-auto pistols are another addicticon as are Iver Johnson firearms, especially pistols, particularly the top breaks. H&R handguns are also looked at but not as avidly as Ivers.
I am not intoacquiring shotguns as much as I used to be, I have more than enough to meet whatever needs I have. I guess I would pick up a 12 ga Ceasar Guerini or B. Rizzini sporting clays gun with 34" barrels if it was the right price but that would be about it. Well, maybe a Beretta O/U in 410 for my wife to use though the 28-410 Chamber Mates work well enough for her use.

If I can't find any of these then I'll look at military rifles of various countries but especially Smellys. No. 1s are my favorite but will look at No 4 and 5 if the price is right and it is in good shape. If I find a decently priced 1903 I'll pick it up but the 1917 I have is good enough. I would really like to find a military dressed Winchester 1895 Lee/Navy to go with the sporter I have.

Exotic stuff, which by plan or fate becomes collectable. Got a 41AE Tanfoglio, a 440 Corbon Magnum DE, rare Delta Elite, very rare ASAI One Pro in 45 ACP which is an exotic Swiss CZ clone, and even my stock Remington 700 Sendero SF in .338 Ultramag is now collectable because it's obsolete, and it's a full JP custom job on top of that. Owned a 44 Automag back in the 70's when they were new. Oh, and my 50AE AR-15....

Variety and budget conscious for Mrs. C. and myself. We don't have more than one of any type of firearm with the exception of our 1911's for of two reasons. First, it's a 1911. Second, I had to get her one of her own so I could get mine back. Next on the list is a .22 pistol and Mrs. C. has an unhealthy attraction to SKS's even though she only wants firearms made in the USA (but she still bought me a rifle made in Belgium and a handgun made in Germany). My wish list is occupied by a large caliber revolver with a like caliber carbine.

I"m a fan of anyone that goes bang. I actually love the variety of styles and really want to get a CZ and a Hi Power. Until then, I've fallen in love with the 1911, and over half of my pistol collection is comprised of 1911s. I should buy a Hi Power and a CZ to even it out, eh?

Smurfman, I have an old Iver Johnson pistol that was my Grandpa's.
Maybe I can send you a pic sometime. I don't know much about it, except that it's a .22 revolver and is very worn.
I've got a .22 rifle that was given to me by my dad when I turned 16. It looks like a Marlin, but it says Western Auto Model 150M on it.
Anyone remember Western Auto stores? Those guns mean a lot to me. They aren't worth a lot but the sentimental value is great.

Sam when I think of you, I think of .50's. That sounds like an interesting mix.

In my experience Browning Hi Powers are like 1911's. You can't stop at one. There are old ones, military ones, new ones, blued ones, black ones, nickel ones.....
Browning Hi Powers have that nice feel in the hand like 1911's too. Very Very Addicting

You too? I've owned mine since my senior year of high school. I wish I could say I shot my first deer with it, but that honor goes to the model 100 jam-o-matic that I traded for it. I picked up a model 100 a little over a year ago from a fellow board member. Some day, if I ever win the lottery, I'd like to get an 88 and a 100 in every caliber (and configuration) they were available in.

Overall would be budget guns. I have yet to pay over $300 for any firearm. Also a HUGE plus for me is STAINLESS. I LOVE stainless guns, just attracts me like moths to a flame

Handguns would be all steel guns, don't care for poly guns (even though I own one).

Rifles would be commie guns (current cravings), have a sks, now a mosin, still waiting for an AK that would convince me to open my very hard to open wallet :?

And of course always a "deal" gets me all happy :geek:

Wheelguns, favor all wheelguns from the 1955-1980 time frame. Also really like 1911s. The history behind them just makes me buy more of them.

You're probably right on the first part, but I'm pretty sure the last part is BS.

I must be the odd duck here. I have 2 pistols, which is all I really need. Maybe I'd get a rifle ( an AR-15 ), but other than that, I can't see myself buying tons of guns, let alone i various calibers. I'm not a collector of anything. To me, a gun is no different than a wrench or a car, it's just a tool. People collect all sorts of things (guns, cars, dolls, bubble gum cards, beer cans, etc), so more power to those who do, it's just not my thing.
