Mostly food and H2O... Plenty of ammo and guns laying around. I started on the food and H2O a bit ago, buying a little at a time.

The thing that got me the other day... Gas If **** hits the fan gas could be real hard to get. It would be nice to have enough on hand to fill the tank. Which would give me about 600 miles on the highway. The last place I want to be is in the city stranded with no gas.

Storage is the hard part. The best I can think of is to get some non-oxy and treat it with stabil. That should be good for a while, a 100x better than pump gas.

I have also been dreaming of the perfect vehicle. So far it would be a older mechanical diesel, set up to run on WVO. You could run it on damn near anything, plus no computer to crap out and most parts can be fixed or replaced. I am partial to the older Fords with the 6.9 and 7.3 IDI's, known for 1) hard starts 2) run on anything(once they are warm).

Oh I'm quite serious. Don't worry. I'm not some crazed wackjob that's going to go off or looking to harm anyone.... I'm no gun nut or conspiracy theorist, etc. the US Government already had federal agents at my door for my background investigation for work, etc. What I AM though is very protective of my family, and I've always been so. there's a story demonstrating that, ask me in-person sometime. It's nothing bad, but it does demonstrate my loyalties at a very young age.

I've seen what happens when society stumbles (NYC in 1977 when the power went out, Katrina, etc). Humankind devolves pretty quickly..and I can only imagine what it'd be like if society completely fell. It's everyone for themselves. I'd like to think "peace, love and flowers" and sing Kumbiya while holding hands with everyone, but the reality is, that ain't gonna happen and my family comes first. Anyone who isn't in the immediate family cannot be trusted at that point.

Get a pickup and put a 60 gallon auxiliary fuel tank in the bed. You'll be using the fuel, so no worries about long term storage.

Nothing

However, with Sandy having recently kicked the **** out of R.I. it seems like the power only needs to be out for a couple days for things to go to heck in a hand basket.

It's gotten me thinking about my disaster plan/emergency supplies, and getting a robust trailer for my bicycle. I'll be damned if I ever wait in line for gas.

Actually, December 21st, 2012 @ 11:11am UTC (05:11CST), to be exact, if you believe the Mayans. Personally, I don't believe it will end, but if it does, Death is nothing to fear anyway.

Apparently, XDM45 has never met Death before, so he has no idea about fearing Death to begin with. Death is one mean azz biznatch!

(I'm a little freaked out by Death's cousin, Plague; and the other cousin, Starvation. Neither sounds very pleasant!)

Ammunition. Gun cleaning supplies. 2 weeks of food/water (any more than that, we know serious relocation is on order). Full gas tanks. Basic first aid and Medication equipment. Liquor. Clothing.

Oh, Dog food. Having a dog is a asset in such a situation. The warning system that needs no electricity to work.

Now, why are you worried? Think the badness is going to happen now?

Knowledge

Knowing what to do, how to survive, how to build and operate things, etc, is way more valuable when the SHTF than material items. Those can be lost, stolen, found, purchased, etc. Knowledge stays.
