Whatcha gonna do when you run out of bleach

I've read about storing pool chlorine powder, apparently takes up less space than bottled bleach.
Bleach might have a fragrance, and that might be bad?

Try experimenting next time you go to deer camp and drink bleach water....

Pool Chlorine is a different kind of chlorine than used for water purification. As is laundry bleach.

You have to plan ahead if using bleach - the smell and taste go away after ~3 days, so it's best to let it sit that long before drinking. If you can fill a 50 gallon drum or bathtub with "tainted" water and bleach it, you have a nice supply of drinking water in 2 days without the need to boil 50 gallons of water. Hopefully you have enough on hand in bottles to get you by till then, or else you can boil or bleach and hold your nose.

Boiling water or finding a clean water source that doesn't need to be boiled is what we always did in the BWCA.

Pool chlorine is approx 65% Sodium Hypochloride, bleach about 5%. So pool stuff is more concentrated, but also presents some hazards. I think the powders might actually get hot enough to start a fire when exposed to moisture. They will certainly off gas chlorine. It's an acceptable potable water disinfectant, but there's the possibility of aftertaste. When I worked at a large metro water treatment facility, I had similar discussions with the chief chemist about back country water safety/ supply. As was stated, clear is good, then disinfect. If you got time, aerate to eliminate taste/ odor

I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but if knowledge is power, then proper application of it is wisdom. A good example is a gun... one can have tons of knowledge about guns, but lack the wisdom of when to use it or not; in which case the latter is far more important than the former. A lot of people have knowledge, but few have wisdom, relatively-speaking.

I think you need the trifecta of Knowledge, Wisdom, and good, old plain Common Sense. Then you're all set

I don't know that wisdom can be taught but with knowledge and common sense along with tempered good judgement I think the wisdom will come. I think my grandpa was a wise man and taught me many things without me knowing as did mom. Dad split when I was 5 and never saw him again.

Sounds like you came out alright through that...

..and never as Mark Twain said "Never let an education get i nthe way of your learning". There are both pros and cons regarding college. I don't have a college degree and I make more than many who have the paper.

Well, I don't make much and I can't go any further in the company I'm at without that paper hi my job is rewarding. Working with developmentaly disabled folks has taught me many things I never would have known, especially about myself.

Patience is a virtue and no truer words have been said. It is a requirement to be a good father and husband and teaching others.

I did come out ok, as did my siblings. My kids (all 5) tell me I did ok as did my wife.

ALWAYS have at least 1/2 tank of fuel in your vehicle. If you live in sight of tall buildings, have a bug-out plan and a place to go, then try to beat the rush. It is better to feel foolish somewhere north of Elk River because of a false alarm than it is to be caught in grid-lock and not able to leave the metroplex.

Learn all you can about wood gasification, then build a plant or have it built for you. You can run a generator or a 3/4 ton pickup with one.

Watch Preppers on NGTV. It is always good for a laugh and usually shows you what NOT to do, especially with weapons and tactics. However, there are always at least one or two things you can learn that will help you.

Consider learning to reload your favorite calibers. In nearly any doomsday/anarchy/zombie scenario, having a plentiful supply of ammunition is good. Stock up on reloading supplies, and you will be able to barter bullets for butter.

Continue to cling to your "guns and religion" out here in fly-over country. The President doesn't respect us, but we'll still be around when many others are long-gone from the planet.

Happiness is key, and not dependant upon material riches...however, if you want to get more money and/or challenge yourself, then maybe getting the paper would be a good thing. No one will ever fire you for having it, but they may not hire you for not having it.

Comes down to not making much. I've looked in to more school but haven't been able to get a balance between cost and increase in pay. Pretty happy with life as it is but a little extra never hurts.

To those thinking NW of Elk River is a good idea, remember the Nuc plant is in Monticello. Scary to think of that thing having no adult supervision present, not sure how long the reactor will run, while that may be safe (self-scramming and contained), the spent fuel rods are the big issue.
