Wife has arthritic hands and as it progresses so has her handgun choice.
Can not rack the slide because of grip strength and pain so went revolver Ruger over S&W because of the cylinder release push in vs push forward.
Forward a few more years she can no longer pull a revolver thru double action, has switched to Browning HP 9mm she does reloads before running to slide lock. I load mags and gun and hand it off to her if it malfunctions and she cant clear it she now has a club. When recoil becomes to much she may have to go to .380 .22 whatever still gotta be better then a sharp stick.
She does have a Kimber 1911 with a .22 top end for range use and manages loading her own mags and racking the lighter recoil springs, Also very similiar manual of arms compared to the Browning HP.
Before anyone mentions proper slide racking techniques useing arms and shoulders etc or lightning trigger pulls cylinder releases etc been there done that years ago.
The gift idea is great but only your father will be able to determine what will or will not work for him, Gift card towards the purchase of whatever works?
Who made the semi with the tip up barrel? we may be looking into one of them next.

Shouldn't be surprised we where looking at replaceing the SP101/357 with a .327 prior to the arthritis progressing.

I even considered a pair of P3ATs instead of worrying about a mag change New York reload, But the long heavy trigger pull and small size made gripping the gun difficult.

Had not seen that but its for a GLOCK do they atleast make it for a M&P :P
I wonder about ridding the slide forward with the ring and failure to fully chamber  Its something to look into even if its means having to buy a Glock did I really just say that.

I would bet a skilled machinist could fab one for an M&P.

I would see if she could pull it to the rear and then remove her finger to let the slide go home.

This might work as well:

This is just part of my grand conspiracy to get you to buy a Glock :D

Presently because the Browning does not use a full length guide rod she is able to either push the front of the slide against the edge of any suitable object or hook the rear sight on said objects, Neither is ideal or positive. The slide racker looks ok but sticks out a bit for concealment.
